The time is comming for new rubber on my 03 Z. What options are out there? I checked tire rack and they only list the stock F1's and the Michelin pilot sports is that it????
I currently have 19K miles on a set of Toyo Proxy's. They seem to be lasting longer than the Kuhmo MX's I had on last time. Both of these sets were MUCH better than the F1's in the rain.
Tire Rack, as well as discount tire, offer the Firestone Firehawks in the Z06 sizes(have to list all tires on the Tire Rack site) and they are substantially less expensive, and I've been very satisfied with their performance, on the Z06 as well as the 92 that I open road race at up to 165MPH.
I saw those Firestones and they look very good. Not a lot of reviews yet but the compare well against all others on Tire Rack for a lot less dough.
How are they wearing and how is the straight line acceleration compared to F1's?
Just like to give the new firestone wide ovals another good rating. I wore out the F1s in 8k. I've had a set of kumhos,Toyos and now a new set of Wide Ovals. I like the Wide Ovals by Firestone the best. You get more tread and they stick pretty good on the track with 40lbs in the front and 38lbs in rear. Run about 35lbs of air all around on the street. Great tires.
Hey JST FAST, I saw you yesterday turning off of Genesse into that one road I can't think of the name. i was right behind you in the black Z06. I thought you had an interesting lic plate hence I remembered you.

I just had installed on my blown Z the KUHMO ECSTA MXs in stock Z06 rear sizes and so far so good and as they are at leat $100 cheaper than all its comptetion i give it a big UP!!!!
I have had three sets of F1's on my 2002 Z, at $1200 per set. I have 1500 miles on new wide ovals in stock sizes at $800, and they hook up great in straights or curves, and have deeper tread for wet use--do not use on track, however. There I advise slicks to improve the fun factor.mddpm
They have been on less than 24 hours, I need to adjust the tire pressures first this this morning to 30 PSI then I plan on going out on my favorite roads for a work out. As soon as I have enough SOTP data I'll post a new thread.
I will say this, the side wall's with the built in rim protector look much different than the "almost squared" off look of the GY's. And 10/32nd's of tread look very "meaty" compared to the GY's almost "shaved" 8/32nd's. BS'ing with the FS guys they pulled down a Bridgestone RE750 and a FS Firehawk Wide Oval and set them side by side. They have identical specs and aside from the different names look identical. Both are made in Japan. He say's the FS WO's are rebadged RE750's at a slightly lower cost. Guess FS is trying to win back customers confidence with a world class performance tire. Could be a good first move.
I will say this on my short ride home, they are smoother and quieter than the GY's.
