YES the whole windshield. Ive tinted (limo) my windshield on several of my cars and was thinking of doing my vette. the only issue is i have the hud and wonder if i would be able to see it?
To answer your question:
You'd be able to see the HUD whether you put a piece of cardboard or 3" of steel on your windshield! It comes from INSIDE, therefore will project itself on anything at all. The tint would have absolutely no effect on the HUD at all except to make it easier to see during the day in bright sun.
Not true. It's legal in VA if you have a medical waiver and you can only do it in 50% but any darker then 50% is dumb. I have done 50% on my past 2 cars and it's not bad at all.
and also with tint, heads up will work, i did a grand prix 20% all the way around and the hud still works, all it does is sends a image that is reflected off the windshield, you could stick a piece of cardboard up there and still see it, the reason when you look down on it from the outside of hte car and can't see it is the angle it is positioned in the housing, so the sun doesn't affect it during the day.
ive seen it on a few show cars but its gotta be hard to drive at night with it even with HID lighting, believe me i have a full dark tint arai visor on my helmet and its hard enough with dual HID's and i sometimes flip the visor up if i get caught at night wtih the dark shield
Its illegal in Missouri. I can see (no pun intended) the benefits during day
driving, but at night doesn't it severely reduce your visibility? And we all
know stocking lighting on these cars is already lacking!
ok guys, I think he is aware its illegal. But that wasnt the reason he posted. Back to your question, yes you will be able to see the HUD with no problems, and Antvette, yours looks awesome with it. I'd do it for the looks but scared about night driving, mine is not a garage queen and gets driven mostly at night... Id love to see your pics though
Go for it! the hud will be fine if not better as others said I also dont understand why people feel the need to preach here, its his car he asked about the HUD not your opinion on it

as my previous posts state, I have full tint on mine, with the help of a medical waiver(ligitimately I might add) and the only time its hard to see is if someone turns on the interior light, it reflects off the tint and that can be dangerous.....the girlfriend knows to open the glovebox now, hahaha.

So you are saying that it is LEGAL to tint the whole windshield??? Not in my state or several others that I know of. Not sure where you are getting your "readings" from but you are wrong. I was a police officer for over 30 years and I am very familair with the laws regarding tinting.
Edit* Are you sure you are not trying to say "Illegal" as opposed to "LEGAL"?
So was your original statement in error or did you make a typo?

My C5 had the lightest ceramic tint (believe it was 50%) and the optical clarity was honestly so good you could not tell it was tinted. Did not effect the HUD or seeing at night. The ceramic also reduces the most heat, it worked VERY well for summer heat. Get it done with the good stuff and don't go too dark. The only time you could tell (if you were trying to) it was tinted was when the windows and top were up - you couldn't see in at all
It is illegal (so is limo on the sides, so is loud exhaust, so are a lot of things people do to their custom cars) but I never got bothered. Granted, the wrong cop could wind up behind you, but if you drive like a civilized person you should be fine. Most likely they would not even notice the tint other than the dark side windows. Even when the vert got totalled no one on scene (6 cops) noticed it. I would not recommend using anything dark on the windshield. My Acura RSX is tinted with 35% on the windshield (show car) and it is just too dark at night even with PIAAs and HIDs.
My WHOLE windshield IS tinited and it is LEGAL for me, only because I have a medical waiver. In VA you can tint the entire windshield with up to 50% dark tint with the waiver. You have to go through the state police and submit a form with a doctors signature and reason why you need it. Then DMV sends out a new registration with "sunshading" written along the bottom. It is tough to see at night when it is pouring down rain, but that doesnt happen very often, for me at least, since mine is a "garage queen", but still a daily driver.
BTW before the flamming starts. I know its against the law and i know visablity is slim to none at night without corrective lighting(aftermarket hyperlights) inwhich i have. but my car is a track/trailer queen only.
When I had my tint done (20% on the sides/back) it was a street only car. Now that it's becoming more and more of a track car, I'm thinking about removing it for better visibility. Wouldn't you want to be able to see out the windshield when you are at the track???????????????
I can understand on a show car but on a track car, WTF?????
Uhhh...tinting a windshield is not legal. Only the top 6"or 7" can be tinted with legal tint (this may vary by state). But again that it is not his question.
I would suggest you get a piece of tint and place it on the windshield where the HUD is and see what it looks like, very simple.
it is not measured from the TOP of the windshield (at least in arizona anyways) the law states that you can tint (going UP) from 10" in front of the back of the BOTTOM of the seat then measure up 36 inches - you are therefore allowed to tint from that point UP to the top of the windshield.
(my measurements might be off - it's been a LONG TIME since i was pulled over for that)
and i like the idea of the placing the tint on the windshield for "testing" however, it might not work, as tint that is not affixed to a window had different properties in both glare and clarity - but it would give you a general idea
Go for it! the hud will be fine if not better as others said I also dont understand why people feel the need to preach here, its his car he asked about the HUD not your opinion on it
Maybe, because we might be in the car he hits when he drives at night HIDs or not. Anytime you post on here, you'll get opinions. Mine is Limo tint on the windshield is foolish.
