Default Z06 worth it?

I am finally in them market for a C5, i've been shopping for just over a week now and have found a few pretty good deals. The best deal i have found in my mind is a 2001 red Z06 13k miles for 26,900. I know this is a smoking deal, but i am not sure if i need the Z06. What my father and i want (we're sharing the car, as it is going to just be a toy) out of the car is too be able to take it on trips, cruise around town, hit the drag strip and basically it'll be replacing my fbodies i have had in the past and my bikes. So my questions are:

Whats the ride like in the Z? is it going too be uncomfortable for lets say a quick trip too go to a hockey game 2.5 hours away?

Is the power difference really that noticeable?

As we want to keep it for awhile is the value going to hold better than a coupe?

Whats the average mpg?

Thanks guys i really appreciate it, i've never even ridden in a C5 so i am in the dark. My dad currently owns a C4 and i love it, we'll be keeping both so don't worry.

The Z06 is a great car, good ride and the combination of weight to HP and gearing make it a outstanding performer. For what you want I think it would be a great fit.

I too owned a '95 C4, the Z06 is light years ahead.

Good luck!

It is well worth it. Extra power, a much tighter feel, excellent handling, braking and very good acceleration. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat!

Z06s kick ***, and they usually go for much less than the standard Vettes (atleast in San Diego). In my area they go for around $10-15k less. The only reason I didn't get a Z06 was because I had to be able to take the top off, and I found one with Z51 and the better gear ratio.

I too came from a F-body. I have a 95 Procharged Z28 in my driveway putting 425hp to the wheels. I bought my Z06 and will never regret it. The best I can say is that the car is ALL there! Power every gear, comfortable travel, corners like an animal! I'd do it, you will not regret the Z06. Oh, and my Z06 is faster than my Z28.

this is probably something that every coupe owner wonders. i'm an a4 guy but i drove a manual for 20 years. the z06 just seems a bit nastier. we also like the top off gig in the summer----although the vert deal here in the northeast is not what we want to do. now if they made a z06 coupe, i could see whole crowd of us moving in that direction....if, we don't start to move into the c6 gig.....bottom line, ain't no bad deal owning a c5! bub

get the Z. its a whole nother car. took my buddy with a C5 vert for a ride in my Z, he almost frickin pee'd himself. great highway ride. itll blow the doors off a stock c5 at the dragstrip. looks better for a weekend cruise. and u can still fit a hockey bag in the back (dunno about the sticks though). Z all the way!

The ride is great, the handling is great, the down side to some folks is the top doesn't come off. Everyone likes something different.

IF your objective is to buy a Vette and not mod the hell out of it to equal the power and handling of the Z06, then this is the car for you. The Z rocks out of the box.

Oh yeah, great price, miles, nad color! Remember, all Corvetts are Red... well except the balc and Lemans Blue ones!

It's not any more uncomfortable than a C4. The chassis is much more rigid too so even the "thumps" feel better. And there is just a lot more interior room in any C5.

Drove a '98 A4 coupe. Yes it is noticable.

Look at the difference in value between a ZR1 and an LT1 coupe. Though I don't know if that's a fair comparison since there are a lot more Z06s running around than ZR1s.

Got about 24 MPG combined during my 6 hour trip home from Philly. Though if you drive around the city a lot, expect it to drop, unless you have a lot more restraint than I do! I'd say get the Z, though what can I say I'm biased......

haha- i've noticed he makes alot of very outlandish claims about many things. who knows thou- he may be right. that's a huge market for a dealer that's willing to buy and export to that area then import out..

I dunno.. I live in San Diego and Z06's are still more expensive than base C5's.... actually, most I've seen cost about as much as a vert would.

Well worth the $$ if you want a manual trans, and the fastest and sportiest Vette. Great track car. But the roof doesn't come off, you can't get an auto, and is not a vert. Depends on what you want, but a bargain if that's what you want.
