Yes I have done it with my last 3 Vettes due to the poor quality of the paint from G.M.
But make sure yo knkow what you are doing before you do it.
GM clear is less than 3 mills and can be sanded through very easy.
Done by the right person, it can be great. I had mine done by a pro. First he did the sanding, which almost gave me a heart attack because the whole car looked so dull. Then he polished it in three stages, using a different type of cloth on the buffer for each stage. The end result was amazing! All of the little imperfections were gone, even on the side mirrors, and now if you toss a cloth onto the hood, it just slides off. But like he told me, be very careful who you have do it, as in the hands of an inexperienced person, your paint can be ruined in a heartbeat.

If your clear coat doesn't have any organge peel or imperfection, you should give clay bar a try. Take a pair of old panty hose and run it accross the finish on your car. Then use clay bar per manufacturer instructions, try the panty hose again, you will be amazed what the clay bar removes. Then wax to a beautiful finish!!!
