In IL you can ask for supervision if your record is reasonably clean. you pay the fine, plus an additional amount, and go to class for 4 hours.

i actually found my last class very informative. Was taught by a police chief who lectured the entire time about a lot of practical aspects of driving (like how much you can drink in a period of time while staying under the .08 limit).

On the other hand, you can pay a lawyer who probably will get you off, but you'll pay the lawyer a lot more than the cost of the fine.

What the HELL is this country coming to?
You guys are a bunch of wimps,"do the crime, pay the fine". What a bunch of B.S.
Look, I guess that fighting a speeding ticket does not rank up there with " If the glove don't fit, you must acquit" or " I did not have sex with that girl" or even "read my lips, no new taxes", but just "bend over and take it like a man". Boy I dont want to go to war with you guys.
"Look the enemy's coming, lets just put a white flag up maybe they wont kill us after all".
Come on you "gotta fight for your right...........to PARRRRRTY" Oh sorry, that was something else, anyway. Look if every peice of crap politican, oil company executive, or local cop who shoots somebody can stand up and deny that they did anything wrong then we damn sure have that right and should use it. I belive that the constitution gives us the right to free speach, unless your in the wrong neighborhood in NY .

I say go to court, ask for a trial, then when your trial day comes put the "PIG", I'm sorry "Peace Officer" on the stand. Ask him if he remembers the incedent? If he says yes, ask what color car you were driving, without looking at the ticket. If he says correctly your screwed, if not start in with your " how is it possible that you can remember the facts of this case when you can't even remember the color of the vehicle I was speeding in ......I'm sorry, ALLEGEDLY speeding in". Now that you got him on his heels, time for the " Do you stop every single person that is speeding while on duty?.
" NO."
"Then the reason you stopped me was I was in a CORVETTE, the ONLY true sports car MADE in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
"NO."
"So its not the only true sports car made in america? Name me another that can match its looks, performance, gas milage and its need for endlees mod's?"
"What?"
"Just what I thought! So you pulled me over because I was in a Corvette, that Sir is profiling and it is against the law"
"Your Honor, If anyone is guilty hear it is the Peace Officer who like a coward, hides behind bushes, signs and donut shops and waits for Patriotic Americans like myself to drve by in their American Made sports car and give them a citation for blowing the carbon out of my fuel injectors"
" I rest my case"

Give that a try and let us know how ya do

Best suggestion I have heard yet. And please let us know how the "only true sports car" defense works.

I always figure it this way, when I finally do get a ticket for going 70, or 80mph in a 55 zone, I may not deserve it that time, but think back to the 50 plus times I've done 0-100, and coasted back down to 65 that I've gotten away with it. Pay it.

I fought the law and the law won, I fought the law, and the law won.

Agree with the first part.

Hope you're kidding about the last part....

What you are asking for is called Defered Adjudication.
What is it? It is an option the Judge has that allows you a set amount of time, usually 6 months to a year, it says ,if in that time frame you do not recieve another citation, the current citation will not be reported and removed from public records.
Not every state or county in a state has this option but you can ask.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET A TRAFFIC TICKET

This advice was sent by a retired State Farm agent!

This system has been tried and it works in every state.

If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light or whatever the
case may be, you're going to get points on your license.

This is a method to ensure that you DO NOT get the points. When you get
your fine, send in a check to pay for it. If the fine is $79.00 make the
check out for $82.00 or some small amount over the fine. The system will
then have to send you back a check for the difference, however here is the
trick.

DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK! Throw it away! Points are not assessed to
your license until all financial transactions are complete.

If you do not cash the check, then the transactions are NOT complete.
The system has received it's money and is satisfied and will no longer
bother you (and no points will be added to your license).

This information comes from an unmentionable computer company that sets
up the standard databases used by every state.

Send this to everyone you know. You never know when they may need a
break!

i just went through this earlier this week.i knew my driving record was clean[only ticket was back in 99],but i got jammed for 50 in a 25.i called and pleaded not guilty, went to court and saw the prosecuter[who already had a copy of my driving record]and came straight out and told him the truth, yes,i was speeding but i don't want to take a hit on my record with the points[hell,i told him i would cop to the kennedy assasination and the lindberg kidnapping if i had to].the prosecuter played ball.the PROSECUTER went with me into court, told the judge that i would plea to "unsafe operation of a motor vehicle"[no points],i paid the fine and good-bye.no lawyer,no nothing.
now,if your driving record is so bad that tree activists are after you because of the paper used to print your driving record can wallpaper a room, that's different.

Definitely go to court and see if you can get it reduced, dropped, plead no lo, PJC, deferred adjudication or whatever. I've gone to court for every ticket I've ever gotten except for one and come out clean. The one I didn't fight in court was reduced (read: rewritten) to be 79 in a 55 as a result of a phonecall from one of my buddies in law enforcement, which I was happy to take versus the alternative. These people who are saying "just pay it" are crazy. Good luck!

You have to pay to play, but no need to pay unnecessarily.

Stupid advice? Hardly. I've gone into court for speeding tickets 5 times in the last 20+ years. The officer didn't show up twice. My wife went in once about 10 years ago, and the officer didn't show up. All 6 tickets were in different cities. A 50% no show rate sounds pretty good odds to me.

Of my 3 (under 25yrs.) that the officer showed up. I only got points once. The other 2 times I paid fines and court costs, and had the ticket taken under advisement for 3 months once, and 6 months once. I was good that long, so no points.

I didnt read all the responses, but Ill tell you from personal exp:

Go to court EVEN if you have to travel a far distance

Paying the fine up front says you are guiltly, and watch your ins rate go SKY high for 77 in a 55 (thats over 20mph over the posted). And typically, it wont go down again for 3 years...........

Remember, you just dont pay the fine. Court cost alone is like $80 in my state) And again, ins rates will get ugly...........

Even if you dont have it completely thrown out (thats rare). Ill bet it gets reduced to a lower speed

Always go to court
