If you bought the key new I don't think there is a cheaper way (unless you have the tools to do it yourself) If you bought it froma smaller private dealer try what I did. I gave them 2 keys with my trade in and they gave me only one key so I had them make me an extra. If that doesnt work ask them how much it would be. Maybe the used car dealer would be less expensive than a chevy dealer. Try it. GOOD LUCK.
Take your existing key, and measure the resistance across the VATs pellet ... using a digital voltage (multimeter) If you don't have one go to radio shack and ask them to show you how their demo one works using your key as the tester...
Do a search in C5 general on VATS code or VATS table.
Your will find a series of posts that give the key (pellet) number for that resistance (ohms)
Get online , go to eBay and search for VATS key
buy one that is for your model year and matches your key (pellet) number.
Take it to any local place that cuts keys...

You should be done for $15-20 all in.
Good Luck
Or you could go to a locksmith or key maker and get a new one like I did for $35
Yes, get a blank key with the correct VATS number and take it to a key shop or locksmith. The whole process should cost you less than $10 for a double sided key cut and probably $10 for the blank itself. I got one made @ Carlisle for around $15. I also had one made without the VATS pellet for door entry purposes only for $5. Not a bad idea to keep a nice flat plain key in your wallet and keep the real one with the VATS pellet hidden somewhere in the car.
