Well I tried that and it did not work. But I realized that when I tried to start it with the fuse box open that there was a distinctive clicking or popoing noise coming from the fuse box when I turned the key.
Does the car have headers? you might have burnt the starter wire and it's grounding out. My brother's friend did this to his 2000 TA and it kept blowing fuses and wouldnt start till we were able to zip-tie the wire out of the way temporarilly.
It sounds like you have a worn ignition cylinder. There are two leads going to it that reads your passkey. Try your spare key to see if it will start first, because your normal key may be worn, or have a loose resistor pellet. I had this same problem and fixed it for under $10.00.
if you think it is the cbl then do a cbl search. there was a way you could jam the steering wheel to one side which would trick the car into unlocking the cbl.
if you have not swapped out the cbl relay I suggest doing it. It was quick and easy, there are good picture write ups to show you each step. I bought mine from thunder racing.
Your passkey ignition circuit goes to the BCM. It is a purple/white wire and a white/black wire. (2 wires color coded) This circuit reads your passkey. You need to measure the resistence of your key's resistor pellet, insert a variable resistor (potentiometer) in the circuit dialed in to match your passkey's resistence. This is called bypassing your VATS. This is the same procedure used when someone installs a remote starter on an automatic. This will enable you to start and drive the car as long as you want until you get the ignition cylinder replaced.
If you check your codes, you may be getting a 40bms B2723.
Waiting 10 sec. usually happens when you insert a key from another vehicle or it does not recognize yours.

I just read in Pop. Mechanics that this may happen if your resistor pellet gets dirty. Spare key is a great idea. good luck. I got the Wait 10........message but mine started after the 10 sec. wait. For me the message told me "install CLB". I did and havent seen the message since.

Yes, cleaning the key is recommended first also. I have not done the CLB recall because of my tuning, I don't want to erase the program.

Your post is confusing. When you say CBL, do mean CLB? The CLB is the Column Lock Bypass kit, not the steering lock itself. You make it sound like his CLB failed which is not the case as I don't even think he has one installed. Usually if the steering lock fails to unlock, the engine will start but will go to "reduced power" and usually stall out. I tend to agree with others and think maybe the problem is with the Vehicle Anti Theft System, however the installation of the CLB (Column Lock Bypass kit) would be a wise move.
Well I went back to my car. And tried my spare key. Still nothing. So I turned the steering wheel far right and turned the key, it started. Drove it home. Now it starts fine, with no problems. Both keys work fine now. Is this still column lock? I thought there would be a message on the DIC telling me it was column lock if that happened.
I thought about having it towed, but I have seen some crapy tow jobs. I would have been just as nervous having someone tow it as I was about leaving it there. I did worry a bit. I think all the alcohol in my system helped me sleep.
