Default HELP (Tree sap!)

Im at my end... I don't know what else to do... My wife and I went away for our anniversary, we took our 2001 coupe with us, we had a great time at a cabin up in teh mountains, the weather was awesome and the fall leaves were beautiful...

Now I've spent 3 weekends in a row, trying different products, usually about 5 - 6 hours every saturday trying to remove this tree sap!!! I've tried every product on the shelf... quite literally... and it will not go away... I used 2 rubbing compounds yesterday, I washed the car, used bug/tar/tree sap remover, washed the car again, the stuff was strong enough to strip ALL the wax off the car, I went ahead and ran mguires scratch X across the finish and applied 2 coats of wax... as the wax dried, I ran my fingers across the glass like surface only to feel what can be described as sand paper...

Can I make an insurance claim on somthign like this? It's horrible... I feel sick knowing what it looks and feels like... I knew I should've brought the car cover...

kerosene mixed with some water might do the trick. Just make sure you wax the area after your done.

It may sound weird, but butter may be the answer. Wipe it on the sap and let it sit for 45 minutes to an hour. Butter tends to soften the sap and let you remove it with a soft cloth.

I would try that before putting gasoline on my car... It's amazing what clay will remove. Good luck...

I would assume you use a claybar before trying anything else. Some times the wonderful claybar can't get em all....

I've had very good luck removing tree sap with One Grand's "Special Touch" cleaner. If that doesn't work, I'll usually whip out the clay.

I've always used the hottest water I could stand mixed with dishwashing liquid. The hot water usually dissolves the tree sap being that tree sap is basically a sugar and hot water dissolves sugar.

Mineral spirits (paint thinner) will do the job and no harm to the paint. After all, it's made from tree sap. Re- wax the area after the sap is off.

This might sound weird but a logger told me to use mayonnaise to get sap off your hands and tools. I thought he was wacky but it worked like a charm!

Glad clay bar did the trick. Now I suggest you get a couple of coats of Zaino on the car. I have found that tree sap comes off pretty much with just water and a towel with the Zaino applied.

Claybar is my recommendation also. You may want to check out the Car Care Products section of the Forum. Several very knowledgeable people and a few professional detailers hang out. You can most always find or get excellent info on all types of car care there. Good luck with the car.

Clay bars are one of the most worthwhile products on the market. I'm a firm believer in them.

Any of your guys ever try Tropicare? I started using that after Zaino got a little hard to find a local retailer for. That and the guy I used to get my Zaino from is the owner of Tropicare lol.
