I know there has been alot written about finding a small puddle of lube beneath the rear differential, but I did not pay much attention to those messages until now. I have about 8900 miles on my 2004 CE Vert and I just returned from my first road trip with it, up the Ca. coast on Highway 1. Loved the drive and esp. the car. Got my first speeding ticket in 15 years (the CHP could not have been nicer, loved the car and wrote me up for only 10 mph over the 55 mph speed limit, but was clocked at 85..................he said he had a hard time catching me................whoops!!). Anyway, I was going through the gears on the twisties (I have an automatic), and today I notice a little leak on the garage floor.
I was planning on bringing the car in for an oil change, so I will have them check it out. Anything I should tell the dealer or watch for? Thanks as always for your help.

It's usually on the driver's side. I had my '04 vert done about 5,000 miles ago. Way too common. You'd think GM would have fixed it after an eight year run. (That and column lock, pass. window switch, fuel sender,...... )
Mine never seemed to leak in town. Usually had a puddle of differential fluid after driving on the interstate. Dealer told me it is because the fluid gets much hotter at speed and easier to leak.
8700 miles for me on an 03. I wonder what the % is for this happening. And I wonder how many need to have it done more than once. Only GM knows and they aint talking.

In the C5 tech section, there was a thread about this leak that was trying to become a poll. The idea is that enough people say they had the problem, that maybe we could get GM to offer extended warranty on this or get a class action lawsuit going. There were two pages of replies the last I saw. But I doubt GM will do a thing about it. Plus I don't think I've ever seen a class action lawsiut for anything like this. Lawyers are only interested in big payoffs, such as when there is physical harm to humans. Hey, has anybody slipped in the puddle of diff fluid and injured themselves?

Just tell the service advisor where the puddle was found - if they have worked on Vettes at all, they should know where to look. Good luck with the repair.
