I tried my rear defogger a few days ago, and it was the first time I used it since I got tinted glass put on.
It seemed to work just fine for a couple of days, then all of a sudden, it doesn't work anymore. The light on the center stack comes on, but it does not rid the rear of frost/dew.
Ideas? Where is the fuse for it? Would the window tinting have anything to do with it not working?
if it worked prior to the tint,1 of 2 things happened.either you have a bad connection on the sides of the glass or 1 of the grids got cut.more than likely it is a connection if the whole glass is out.
The guys that tinted it assured me they would not harm the element. There is static on the AM radio there didn't use to be, but hear that is common especially with metalic film.
Some tinters even sand the dots up top for a better fit. They didn't do that either as they came back a week or so later and put on some black vinyl up close to the top where the tint didnt' stick all that well.
Can it be tested with a volt/ohm meter to see if the element is still good? Should there be 12v to each side of the rear hatch plugs, or is one + and the other - ?
correct,1 side should be 12 volts and the other ground, but what you want to see is the voltage drop across the glass, which is hard now with the tint.turn the defogger on and feel to see if the glass gets hot.also look at the orange led on the switch,if the glass grid is working, the led will go off after awhile and the glass will be warm.
