You really should test drive an A4 and a MN6 to see what YOU like the best.
All 4 sports cars that I have owned have be manual transmissions, but my next one will be an automatic. I'm getting to the point where I just want to step on it and go...and not having to downshift, match revs, etc.
Also, if you like FI like I do, the assortment of C5 clutches that will hold big power is disappointing to say the least. You're always trading off something - chatter, drivetrain noise, stiffer pedal, grabby engagement. I say get a beefy A4 and let it fly! In fact, I'm considering converting from a M6 to an built A4. Hopefully, John Page isn't reading this thread or he'll be licking his chops over selling me a new tranny.
Also, I've heard that an A4 setup maintains boost better between shifts. That sounds cool to me.
I like my A4 but bought the car thinking my wife would drive it, she has....twice!! I will buy a MN6 if there is a next time! I've always owned manual shift cars, just not a Corvette.

That said, the purpose of a sports car is to maximize the interaction between the driver and the machine to have more fun driving IMHO. I get a lot of satisfaction when I drive my MN6 well and take it as a challenge to continually improve my skills. The A4 doesn't give you that opportunity. Got no problem with those who prefer to leave the shifting to the computer, but its not for me.
Vinnie, Not true on the GM getting a handle on things. They reflashed my '04, but it only cuts off fuel when the lock fails. It does nothing to fix the problem. CLB is the only answer. That said, with everything else you said. For me it was MN6 or no Vette.
