Default Brake piston boot

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this. I had one of my rear brake calipers off yesterday and noticed that at least 50% of the rubber boot around the brake caliper piston was missing. Looked like dry rot more than anything else. I have a 2003 Z06 with less than 16K miles on it. Is this normal? Will it affect performance? My warranty runs out the end of this year. I was thinking about having the dealer check all the calipers.

Thanks in advance!

I'd certainly ask the dealer to take a peek at it. Can you tell whether or not that it is leaking?

Didn't appear to be leaking, but there was quite a bit of debris in there. I have a list of a few minor things I want to look at before the warranty runs out and I am definitely adding this to the list.

Do a search in the AutoX/RR section. the dust boots will last about 30seconds on a roadcourse, so most of the track guys don't even bother putting them back on when we rebuild the calipers. If you've been doing some aggressive driving, the AH is kicking on and activating the rear brakes a lot which would melt the dust boot. There is half of 1 dust boot left on my car the rest have melted. make sure you clean out the junk before you compress the piston, but other than that you're fine.
