Yes, I'm in the process of writing a detailed "how to". I will post it in the Audio/Electronics section of this Forum once I'm finished.

Yes, but I didn't want to put it all the way down into the ash tray area. It's really not a big enough opening and it's not as convenient. Every one I've seen has part of the words, "Driver" and "Passenger" cut off by the radius of the opening. I wanted this to look as much like a factory installation as possible. For that reason, I only moved it down far enough to accept the AVIC-D1 bezel.
You can see in the photos below how I cut out the HVAC trim and relocated it lower down. The Bondo you see is before final sanding. Most of the fill work was done using ABS and Oakley ABS cement. (available at Lowes or Home Depot) The Bondo should be used only for hiding slight imperfections. The rate of expansion and contraction obviously differs from the ABS and may cause hairline cracking when the car is exposed to extremes in temperature, if the Bondo is too thick.
wow....that really is outstanding....I dont know how much time it took you, but it may be worthwhile to look into selling those already completed. Speaking as someone who desperately looked for a way to install a flat screen without paying a shop an arm and a leg for a custom install, Id definately pay 200 bucks or possibly more for a custom piece similar to yours
As promised, here's a shot of the finished installation of my AVIC-D1 navigation system. I still have to wire it up, but that should be the easy part. I took this shot before I tore it back down for the wiring.
All in all, it was a pretty fun project and definately worth the trouble.
Looks great - you did an awesome job. Glad to see a "factory" look for the installation. Gives me hope as I am also wanting to add the AVIC doudle din unit but am waiting for the next model out.(supposed to be easier to bypass the "ebrake" feature according to the Pioneer rep). Where are you going to put the brain for the unit? Any camera or voice feature with it?

If you decide to go into business.....Put me down for 1 (I have friends in Richmond and would have them pick it up).
