Same thing happened to my brothers Vette. Wires and the rubber fuel line between the tanks. He went out one day and could not figure out were the gas smell in his garage was coming from 
Well $1300 later he found out they had eaten the fuel line and were in the engine compartment having a feast on his wiring harness 
Insurance covered it minus the deductable
