I'm installing the passport SR7. It's a remote mount radar detector/laser shifter unit...there are two laser shifters and a detector in the front, and a shifter in the back...
The back unit isnt a problem, however the front units (3 of them) are proving bothersome to mount.
I'd rather not mount them outside the body, due to theft/damage issues.
Well, you're not going to want to be drving with your headlights up all the time, so I don't that's feasible. It seems you are left with mounting them in the recesses for the fog lights/air screens, or else doing some cutting of the fascia and mounting them alongside your front license plate (or if you don't run a front plate, in the plate recess. I seem to recall someone here doing the latter, as cops will aim for the front license plate when they're shooting laser. Good luck.
I installed the SRX, which is basically the same as far as the sensors goes...
The radar detector can be mounted anywhere behind the front bumper cover as it can "see" radar thru the cover as it's plastic. Don't install it behind the license plate though as that's metal.
I was able to mount the laser detectors behind the screens on my Z06, kind of adjacent to the where the fog lights go. These need to be level and have a clear line of sight. I mounted them on the bumper itself. You can do a trial location and then go in front of the car with a flashlight. If you can see them with the flashlight, they are in an "ok" location. I used the 3M double-stick tape to secure them. Been there for 2 years now and no problems, and they DO WORK!
