Well, I picked up my new addition a '99 torch red coupe 6-speed yesterday. Didn't sleep much all week as would be expected. When I got in it it was the first time I had ever sat in a c-5 let alone drive one. Before I handed over the check I wanted to take her for a quick spin around the block. Car is awesome..a lot different from my c-4. My wife actually seemed excited too!! Am I a lucky guy or what!
I drive it home and directly into the garage. The heat is on the garage is well lit. First thing to do is read the owners manual..pretty thick book. I'm reading along learning all ther is to know and my wife comes into the garage and after about 2 seconds says " where's the spare?" I tell her it's under the car where it always is. She looks under the rear of the car and says "surprise it's missing"...."WHAT" I say and take a look myself...it's not there! I discovered that I should have read a little further into the owners manual before she came into the garage!!
dadsturn: You mentioned the run flats. I see alot of negativity about those on this site. I'm a new owner and am interested in what is wrong with them and how do I determine if I have them. 04 C5, Thanks!

Congrats on your new Vette! I know you will love it.
If you have run flats, it will say on the side of the Good Years, EMT, Extended mobility tire. I have a 2004 vette and still have the original EMT Good Years on it, so I cant say how new tires would ride. These tires dont really bother me except for the road noise, Like going from smooth asphalt to concrete pavement. It gets a loud roar on the concrete. I have had two flats so far and was lucky enough to be close to a good tire company to have the flats fixed without any damage to my wheels. If you do have a flat be very very careful who you have to change your wheel. A lot of tire places do not have anyone or the equipment to deal with aluminum wheels and will scratch the back inside of your wheel and then most likely you will be stuck with a scratched wheel because they are not going to buy you a new wheel. They scratched up mine and unless I took them to court I could never see getting a new wheel out of the jack *** at the tire company.
Will get pics in a few days. It's snowing here right now. The car doesn't have run flats on it. The last owner put on Michelins.

I have found a solution to the run flat problem. Well at least it works for me!
I bought a small campbell hausfeld air compressor at Wal*Mart for 20.00. It is a quality unit and is about 3 lbs or so. They have the same compressor with a built in recharable battery for about 40.00 but its too much weight to carry around in my vette. I bought a tire plug kit which has a reamer and plug insertion tool and plugs for about 3.00. So if you get a nail in your tire you can fix it on the road and not have to worry about ruining the expensive run flats. Just when you get home have a good tire company put a patch inside the tire, dont trust the plug.
