Cd-R's play great in the dash but they sound bad when in the 12 disk changer. Same disks put into 6 disk changer in my Mercedes play fine. Anyone else with same issue? undefined

Yep, same exact problem. If you search on the forum you will find that there really isn't a good solution. I had the 12 disk changer replaced and it is better but not great. I did notice it seems worse when it heats up...not sure if that helps.
When I played my CD-r that I made they sounded like an old scratched vinyl record. I have had some luck burning at the slowest speed possible. Don't know enough as to why. Also used a good CD-R like memorex rather than the real cheap ones seemed to make an improvement.
you can switch out the changer for a kenwood unit and also will get the ability to play mp3 disks. You could probably sell the changer for about what you'd pay for a kenwood aftermarket unit too
Kewl; do you know what model number, as I've looked at the Kenwood Excelon KDC-CX87, Kenwood KDC-C669, and the Kenwood KDC-C719, and the info says they will not work with 2004 Convertible factory system ??
I had the same problem with a number of my CD-R's (though not all of them). The ones that I had issues with were recorded at 40X speed. When I re-recorded them at a 16X speed, the problem went away. I haven't had my 2002 long enough (almost two months now) to determine if that's any kind of a permanent solution though.

Appears that unit is "no longer for sale." Maybe I'll get a reply from Kenwood one of these days as to which unit will work.
I've tried several name brand cd'r's. I've tried two different burners in two different computers, and I've tried burning as slow as 2X, but they play like old very scratchy 45's, and only in that changer; everyplace else they sound beautiful.
forget cdrs and discs. old technology..........chuck your cds and go........ipod !!! your Vette deserves it
I'm with you; it took a long time but i went ipod as well,Its not cheep but if you add up all the CD-R you purcase and discard after scraching its a lot cheeper in the long run!! Plus you dont have to carrie all those CD case around with you;we all know how much room we lack in our vettes,oh ya its looks cool too!!!!!
You might want to look into an iPod (My car didn't come with the changer, so when I looked at all options and went with the iPod) You can remove the changer, plug an iPod2car adapter into the changer cable and you have hours and hours of music available - plus an iPod to use outside of the car. Cost is about $199-250 for an iPod Nano (smaller version) + $200 for the iPod2car. You can get cheaper solutions than the iPod2car, but the advantage of the iPod2car - it runs the sound directly into the radio, charges the iPod while your using it, and you still have some limited control of the iPod through the buttons on the radio.
