are they effective..radar detectors
I have not looked to purchased because I have been told the techn of the radar guns are instant ON/OFF soooooo.. Went the detector goes off the gun already has you and your hope is that someone is in front of you going faster that you. IS THIS TRUE WITH ANY OF THESE DETECTORS

When it comes to laser, if the detector goes off you're pretty much screwed. A laser uses a fairly narrow beam that is aimed through a sight glass. There isn't a lot of dispersion with that beam, so if the detector sees laser you might as well just pull over.
Having said that, I've got an Escort 8500 X50 and it has saved me from getting a ticket from conventional radar on half a dozen occasions.
