So last night I was sitting on my bed playing my guitar and I heard the horn on my Explorer start honking (long continuous honk). The horn stopped then I could hear it turn over like someone was trying to start it and steal it. It didn't start but the horn started honking again and never stopped. I followed my mom outside (yes, I still live at home but I'm only 23) and she screams....."THE EXPLORER IS ON FIRE!!!!!" I was like HOLY @#$%!!! I ran back in the house and got a fire extinguisher, put out the fire, and disconnected the battery so the horn would shut up. The fire was under the dash so we're guessing that it's one of those infamous cruise control fires. So thanks Ford for flat-out friggin sucking. For the record, I absolutely hate Ford products; always have, always will. This was just a temporary fix until I got something else. Vette is fine by the way.
Also, I'm accepting donations in the form of blank checks, C6's, etc.
I knew about the recall but we never got a letter. I did a little research this morning and it looks like Explorers werent on the list. This is a 2000 by the way.
Umm there was a re-call for that, even tho there is no fix they would have disconnected your cruise control so your car would not catch fire.
Correct there is a recall and they do disconnect your cruise.. Umh,, wonder if they put someone in the cab of the truck to hold the throttle open in those long over the road trips that I bought the cruise specifically for. I also got a note this month basically stating sorry but we still don't have a fix,, so keep your foot on the gas..
Perhaps when they have a fix I will take it in,, so for now keep the fire extinguisher close.
