DIY Screens

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I ended up buying the OEM Z06 screens with the plastic frames and after velcroing them in, I haven't had any problems and couldn't be happier.
I did this as a side project this weekend. My real project was
a heavy duty DIY protective radiator screen. Besides the things
that could get sucked-in and block the radiator, I could see real
potential for something smashing a big hole in the radiator and
leaving me stranded. Had considered buying off the shelf, but
was concerned the aluminum one might not be strong enough
for some of the stuff laying in the road sometimes. Built mine
from fairly light gauge expanded steel. Will post pic of that later.
Just happened to see this gutter material when I was gathering
stuff up for the radiator shield. Figured $1.30 wasn't bad compared
to over 100 bucks from WCC.
Have lived in deer country all my life. Never had them on any of my vehicles. Have hit one deer only, and that was in my work truck (no whistles). Decided I'd get them for the Vette, and ended up putting them on all my vehicles.
There are smaller ones. Usually they are each "tuned" differently to produce different pitches... one you can hear, and one you can't (just like a dog whistle). The ones I bought are bigger because each one has both frequencies on each whistle.
I think they look pretty good for such a cheap mod. The stainless is no maintenance (except for occasionally catching a bug or two). Have thought they might look better painted black, but not sure the paint would stay on the stainless.
The air screens are "formed" around the back structure of the fog light surround (center portion cut out with Dremel cutting wheel and edges cleaned up with sand paper), then glued in place with Gorilla Glue. Put a small amount of the glue in a paper cup, add a few drops of water and stir it up good. It will "foam up" just like the sticky "foam insulation in a can" (same stuff)... very sticky. Use a tooth pick to smear it on with. Don't try using just the glue out of the bottle... it will run everywhere and takes forever to set-up.
