Default Oil Temp: Low ?

This morning it was about 14 degrees here on Long Island NY where I live. The Oil Temp guage reading on the DIC said "Low" when I started up the Z this morning before heading to work. I had never seen that before as opposed to an actual temp. It stayed that way my entire trip (Oil Pressure seemed normal at about 44psi at around 1500 rpm while cruising on the expressway). Best I could tell trying to read the dipstick was that the oil level should be ok. Is the "Low" indication on Oil Temp Guage an indication that the oil level might be "low" or could it be a problem with some sensor ? Any ideas would be appreciated.

What did your oil temp read after warm up?

I don't see a low oil temp reading to be in any way related to low oil level. In fact if the oil level actually was low, I would expect the oil temp to elevate to some extent. Reads like a sensor problem to me.

It still read "Low" after 12 miles worth of driving after arriving at work. Coolant Temp readings in the normal 196 degree range. I will see what happens when leaving work later in the day as outside temperatures should have risen into the 30's hopefully. Maybe the sensor was just a bit cold and cranky.

Thanks in advance for any input.

If your oil temp climbs to a reasonably normal level, then no prob. probably--except maybe the sensor. And, I get cranky and don't work properly when it is that cold.

Low temp happens when it is less then 40 degrees outside. Car needs to warm up more or keep it in a gargae.

Many ppl say that the corvette should not be driven until the oil is at least 80* more like 100*. and a good reason to have a winter car too.

Personally I start the car, let the pressure come up, then start driving. However I keep it under 3000 rpms and now WOT until the oil temp gets to 150.

Generally thats what I have been doing as well. Hoping it was an anomoly that I wont see going home with outside temp warm-up expected. Had the Z all last winter using the same way with out any problems.
