My C5 was a 'first owner' lease, then it went right to auction. The exterior was well maintained, the interior was spotless, no mechanical defects and a clean CARFAX report.

I'd buy another C5 off lease if I 'had' to.

We have leased three C5's, including the 2002 I'm driving now. All three were/are meticulously maintained, just as if I "owned" the cars. In fact, the buy-out on my 2002 was low enough to make it a very attractive "deal" at the end of the lease, so I bought it from the bank. I would not let the fact that a Corvette was leased stand in the way of getting the car - if everything else checks out. Do your homework!

My 2001 was leased in its previous life. I checked it out and it was in very good condition. It was the hard to find color I wanted so I bought it and haven't looked back! Be hesitant, but not completely turned off if it is what you want. If it is right for you, it will "talk" to you - you'll know, mine did (see below)

good luck.

I love the blanket comments, "no", just don't do it... WTF??????

unless you run a carfax or are looking at the same car he is, how in the heck do you all know if the car was maintained or not.. typical stereo type i Love on this forum 1 or 2 people say it's a bad idea and the rest jump on the band wagon.

Just take the same steps you would to check a previously OWNED vehicle. so long as you do your homework either way is fine.

good luck and I hope it works out good with whatever you choose

The Carfax checks out clean. no issues. It does say that it was also registered to a company that owns fleet vehicles. what ever that means, I assume that the company owns other lease vehicles.
* Sebring Silver Metallic with Black Leather, Black Top
* 5.7 Liter 345hp, LS1 V8
* Z51 Performance Handling Package
* 6-Speed Manual Transmission
* High Polished Aluminum Wheels
* Bose Audio with In-dash Cd and 12 Disc Changer
* Head-up Display
* Power Telescopic Steering Column
* Dual Power Sport Bucket Seats
* Memory Package
* Dual Zone Automatic Climate Control
* Active Handling

New tires - run flats
these are the options and has 55200 miles on it.
What do you think is a fair price.

I leased a Lexus and treated it like I owned it; obsessive waxing and all...A former partner would always lease and have the above mentality; oil changes every 15k baby!

I would think that there would be consistent care whether you own or lease; if one is a car nut, a clean, well-lubed car is a must...just my $.02

I have leased all my cars and have taken very good care of them! I am leasing my current 2003 C5 and it is in immaculate condition (washed/vacuumed every weekend)! I have only 24k miles on it and it will be turned in June 2006....when I lease my new C6. I agree with those that say leased cars are taken care of just like purchased cars....either well maintained or beat to death! How the car is maintained totally depends on the owner .

How do you know any used car you may buy hasn't been raced or similiarly abused without a close and thorough inspection?
I bought a Sebring vert in FL 5 years ago that was a previous lease. It was as clean as could be. In spite of being a Chrysler, it has been the most reliable car I've ever owned.(I wish the Vette that I bought new was in the top 10. ) We bought it with 30K and it's now 115K and damn near perfect. My brother made the mistake of buying a 1 year old Subaru (Usually a damn good car) Forester from a rental place.(I think Enterprise.) He paid about 2/3 book and got an abused POS. 10,000 tiny dents, smelled after the cleaner smell went away, and burned a quart of oil every few hundred miles. I believe the only maintenence a rental gets is the day they go to sell them. Leases should be no different than any other used purchase. Check it out just the same.

mine was leased and i even contacted the dealer in florida, im in chicago... they had all the records! it was also auctioned off at the end of lease... car is very strong and reliable, also looks like it came right off of the showroom....

If a person leases the vette, it has to be properly maintained, more than likely an older person leased it, another plus!

BUY IT YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

That's my $0.02, anyway.
My '97 was a lease. The person I bought it from, bought it from a dealer as a return lease. I ran the history on it and had all the maintenance records. It came with 18 mos on the extended warranty. When I bought it had less than 30K on the clock...all recalls were up to date..just do your homework..Good luck
