Quick question ... after my recent dead battery issue, I am now setup with a Battery Tender plus. In setting it up, I struggled to find a good spot for the negative connection for the Tender. I finally opted for a metal bracket near battery but would like it to be a little farther away from the positive battery post. Anybody using a better spot?
I had assumed that was the proper setup ... connecting to both posts ... but I deferred to the instructions that were included that said to connect the neg clamp to a piece of metal in the engine bay. Hmm....

For safety reasons they tell you to go the farthest from the battery.(Possible sparks) Just be carefull and make sure your on the right posts, and all is well. A cross conection can make some awful arcs & sparks, possibly setting off gas discharged fron battery + thoise awful sparks you see could be some real expensive electronics being fried.
Just hook up right(double check first) and all is well.

They are just keeping themselves safe from lawsuits in case someone did cross them and the sparks started a problem.
Just like GE directions we got with an electric dryer stating we should have a qualified Electrician install the unit for safety reasons. It merely plugged in.
Or McDonald's having to put "Contents in cup are hot" on their coffee cups.
They are just keeping themselves safe from frivolous law suits....

Just hook it up like you would if you were charging another car black to black and red to red i set my batter tender plus on a step stool about two feet from the car.I called the company when i first got the tender and they told me that is how to set it up black to black and red to red. charlene
Negative is negative at the post or anywhere else on the car; just make sure your connection is solid. You can clip to most any ground location anywhere on the car, or the battery terminal.
While the BT is unplugged you should attach red to pos. terminal first, then black to any ground location you desire. This will virtually eliminate any possibility of sparks.
Once connected, plug it in!
Good luck! I've been using BTs since 1996 on my vehicles. They are worth their weight in gold IMO.
I've got mine as a permanent install, just discount the pig tail when you ready to roll.
Hey silverstreak01, please explain. Curious how you have this setup. I would like to have a permanent setup that doesn't require me to open the hood and disconnect everytime I wanna cruise. Any pics?
hey guys you all forgot to say=to sleep better at night plug it into a surge protector or ground fault wall plug. it is an electrical component and sh*t can happen.

Mine is. Law here states all garage/basement outlets MUST be GFI.
I just bought a Battery tender. I'm going to use - and + post. I always unplug before disconnecting a charger. Charging a dead battery with a DECENT battery charger will make hydrogen gas.
