see them all the time on the forum. Who makes them and exactly what is so hot about them?

Toyo makes them. They are a great bargain tire. I purchased a set of the NT-555 Extreme ZRs for $800.00 mounted, balaced and out the door. The tires lasted for 65,000 miles. The fronts could have gone a little further, but the backs were starting to slip quite a bit. I would have bought another set, but I upsized my wheels and they don't make a size that fits.

C5 OEM sizes they do make though. Actually you can go a little wider in the rear with the 285 that will fit nicely onto a 9.5 rim

In addition they make R Compound for racing...one for the dragstrip & two different models for Road Racing. I run Nitto 555 RII's http://www.nittotire.com/tires_555r2.asp and they are awesome on a road course.

I run my nitto r2's on the street, but I guess they arent going to last long. 275/305's and they feel great. Some say not to run em in the rain, but I got caught the other day and just slowed dow...no handling issues.

285 35 18 front and 305 35 18 rear...

...but from now on I intend to drive them with more thread...
...and on dry roads predominately...

I just ordered a new set 555s for the rear. They don't last long but, the traction is awesome.

I got some 555's in the front and the new NT-01s in the back and these babys are some great handling tires. As far as traction goes that is non factor on my car on the street with over 700+rwhp. These tires grab much better than the sport pilots and cost less

I have 555 RII's on Z06 wheels. Traction is amazing... both autox and straight line. I couldn't believe it when I got them. I'd be in the middle of a intersection in first gear, making a left turn, and just punch it in mid-turn... nothing but GO!

I have run about 30 autox runs on them. Pretty impressive. I haven't taken her to the drag stip with them - I have 60K miles on my car, and I fear for my clutch

I run them on the street, but I am VERY careful on wet roads. As Stu implied in his post, they can be dangerous when the tread gets worn.
