Default Changing Front Turn Signal Bulb

Does anyone happen to have any hints or instructions on how to change my left front turn signal bulb?

As far as I can tell, I probably need to remove a protection shroud or panel under the car in front of the left front wheel (which means removing the wheel)?

Or, maybe some way to access it from on top through the headlamp area? Only trouble here is that my arm doesn't fit.

Also, if I can somehow get in there, is it the connector that faces donward, with a right-angle connector? The one that you can see only if the headlight is up?

Sheesh, what a pain it would be to do it, seems like, huh? Or , am I missing something really obvious?

Thanks in advance.

It's the connector on the front of the unit not the smaller one on the side. It does have a right angle connector.

You'll hear a few other options but the one that works for me is:

Turn on the headlights and back off one position to kill the lights.
Unscrew the 3 small screws on the black plastic housing around the headlight. Gently pull the housing clear. Reach down around the headlight unit and release the bulb holder. It unscrews counter clockwise but it has a plastic clip which you need to squeeze to release it. Change the bulb. Reseat the bulb holder and turn until it clicks back in place. Put the plastic housing back in place making sure to locate the small plastic tab in the bracket on the headlamp cover. Replace the 3 screws and close the lights.
10 minute job.

You basically have three options.

1. Raise the front headlights either with the switch or manually with the **** on the motor. Remove the shroud around the lights (three screws) and reach down in to catch the socket and rotate it out.

2. Remove the lower panel just to the back of the front fascia and reach up and get to the socket.

3. Remove the front tire (whichever side you need) and move the break duct (in the wheel well) out of the way and slide your arm in thru the opening. Basically a straight shot to the bulb socket.

The socket is a straight in with a detent, counter clockwise to remove it.

Thats the way I did mine. Very easy to push the duct in a little and push to the side. Wire was just long enough to reach out so you can see to change it. I tried going in though the head light. I could reach it but with one hand it is not easy to hold and turn the bulb, so I gave up on that way.

That's the way I do mine too. I am 180 5'10, and I reached in w/o any problems.

OK, guys, thanks for the tips. One last question: Does the break duct remove at the rer near the wheel, or in the front near the front fascia?

Thanks again.

Talon 90's summarized the options.

Some of us have difficulties with the alternative methods. In my case:

Some guys with big hands find the headlight method difficult.

Whatever works for you.

I took a look at this option, and after looking at the area:

How do you move the brake duct to the side? I can't see any way to do this without dismantling some parts. Is that what you meant?

I pushed the brake duct down instead of the side. Hope this helps.

i went in thru the headlight area. the bezel was easy to remove. getting to the lights while standing up seemed easier than laying on the ground. they get kinda tricky to seal. must be in tight or they will fog up on ya

OK, I must be a total loser, because I can't see any way to just move the brake duct. My brake duct starts in the bumper, then comes back THROUGH a piece in the wheel well about 3 inches. So, there's no way to just push it one way or another. Are our cars different?

I did it through the bezel area. Seems to me there's room for even a huge arm, provided you stand in front of the car and reach in that way. And, since the bulbs are push in bulbs that don't require any twisting, changing the bulb with only one hand was a piece of cake.

Thanks, all, for the tips.

Another vote for brake duct - very easy.

When I changed one about a month ago, I fought for about a hour trying to reach around the headlight . That would have worked, except my bulb was melted into the socket (pics below) and came out in 'chunks' with needle nose pliers. Thru the brake duct saved me.

i scratched my arm up good and blew a few veins in my head but i did change the bulb without removing anything

raised the bonnet, raised the lights (on if memory serves
as it adds a little reverse glow into the area)

slide your arm / hand in between the pop up lights and down fishing for the the blinking light (turn the indicator on)

its an awefully tite fit and your basically contorted so your hand is behind you and under your butt (as you try not to 'sit'/'lean'/'anything' to the corvette's front qtr panel

have the other bulb near your free hand as you will have to pull the cable from its mooring , which holds the bulb (ie remove it from the back of the indicator housing)

Only it gets worse at this point , there isnt much cable to breath easy, stand up, pull it out, replace the bulb, take a breath and go back in - instead you have to stay hunched over, in a pinch, remove the the bulb (hot) and then with one hand holding the cable lest you pull it out of its brackets, you use your fingers to pull the bulb out of the mount/cable thing (i think its a good pull that does it ... the 'twist and rotate unlock crap is to remove the cable/bulb thing) then drop it, and grab the new bulb and gingerly try to get a second (yeah right hand down there) almost dropping from one hand to the other (while holding the cable remember) and (dont miss , or else there goes 40 more veins to burst)

hand the bulb /drop it to the hand that still has the socket, one handed -use your fingers to pull the bulb backwards to the socket and voila!

now, (while still hunched and no breaks) just locate the slot/indicator housing and re-insert twist/etc to put it back
(course when you put the bulb in , it immediately started to blink/ie -GET HOT ...so your time is limited)

see

Childs Play (or a Fools Errand)

... Son... there is an Easy Way ... and a HARD way.....
lol

if your a TYPE A person, youll do it for the fun of it
