In the process of moving my XM antenna to under the rear bumper cover my project expanded in scope as I noticed some unusual things under the rear carpet of my car . This is my first C-5, but I'm fairly sure that GM didn't put it there.
Anybody have a clue why someone would glue plywood and 1x1's along the fenderwells? Also looks like something was glued further out into the floor also.
Not sure. Some of it looked like clear silicone, but was very hard, kinda like hot glue. (A major Bi^# to remove). Then there was some tan stuff that was hard as a rock.
Had to (CAREFULLY) use a hammer and chisel to scrape it all off.
Ended up covering everything with Dynomat by the time I was done.
A major stereo install was my thoughts too. But man, what a LOUSY install!!!

I agree. That is NOT how it is done.
I attached my amps via short screws to pieces of MDF under the carpet - but they were "floating" above the chassis and could be removed in a couple of minutes.
No holes in the structure and no glue
Here's a pic. The amp is bolted through the panel to MDF behind it.

Glad you got it all off and that dynomat will help a lot
