Default Horsepower Estimate

I am trying to reach the 360 RWHP mark in my 1998 (A4). I currently have the Varaam, Borla Quad Stingers, Shorty BBK Headers installed.

What I want to do in March is to schedule a Dyno tune to have EFI Live installed, Replace the Shorty Headers with Dynatechs Long Tube Headers. So, is there anyone that can tell me what they think my estimate RWHP will be close to after the install?

I know each car is different, but I want to think all options through. I thought about replacing my head and cam with ZO6 heads and CAMs but not sure if it will work or not.

Your help is needed before I empty my empty wallet.

With those mods, you might be in the 330 +/- range.

I posted the same question some years ago when I had my 99 MN6 coupe. Only my goal was to install every "bolt-on" I could that may increase HP. Here's what I did to my 99.

Blackwing
Larger Air Bridge
Smooth Silicon Coupler
MSD wires
NGK TR55 plus
FLT LT Headers
High flow cats
X-Pipe
Corsa Indy's
AMSOIL synthentic fluids (there were some threads going around claiming an 8 HP gain just buy changing fluids). I even posted a POLL to guess my results. I had guys tell me I'd see LS6 power levels in the 330 to 340 range which was secretly my goal.

My before dyno numbers were 293 RWHP and 297 RWTQ with typical FAT AFR's.

Here's my after results on the same dyno some months later:

If your's car was an 01 or newer I'd say 335 to 340, but not a 98. I'm guessing 325 to 330. You'll never reach 360 w/o a H/C and intake package.

Tom

You would need about a 70HP gain at the flywheel to get the 360 RWHP. With just those mods, I am sorry

As others have said, you will be lucky to see 330 rwhp with bolt ons, including the longtubes particularly since you have an automatic. If you are going to spend the coin for Z06 heads and cam, spend alittle more for AFR heads and an LG cam. You will be well over 400 hp at the wheels.

I had LPE install their "Top End" ls1 package in my '99 FRC last spring. It was essentially a headers/cam/intake package with numerous other goodies (wires, plugs, FAST 78mm intake, LUKs gold HD clutch, etc.). I already had PRT exhaust. I went from 305 RWHP to 427. Cam takes over @ 3500rpm and keeps climbing all the way to 6500. Sounds and acts like a different car now. Good luck with your mods.

Dont let these guys discourage you too bad. With those bolt ons you can come close. Check my sig. I would be willing to bet that if I dyno'd her in the cold weather and with straight pipes instead of the high flo cats, I would be in the mid 350s...which is pretty damn close to what you want.

Well, according to GM Parts Direct the ZO6 Heads and cams both will only be $949.00. That is a significant price difference to the AFR's. I just need to know if they will work for me! Surley, some one in here knows!

Well, I am confused then. According to the local dyno tuner (http://www.dtpracing.com/) they have a vette there that is owned by one of there techs that has Corsa Exhaust, Varaam, LS1 Edit, z06 Intake Manifold and Supermax Longtubes and dynoed at 368 RWHP. His car is a A4(99).

I guess it's just a hit and miss!

Hurm, I love these threads. Dyno results can be manipulated to read whatever you want. pretty much.

Just throwing bolt ons on a C5 does not equal 55-60rwhp. If that were the case, I would be at 1000rwhp by now

With all the full bolt ons and a pretty big cam (stock heads), I gained 90rwhp on my A4.

Good luck getting to 360rwhp without going into the engine or strapping on N2O

Well, for me, LG Long Tubes, a Blackwing, and a tune got to 340RWHP (02 MN6 coupe.) A good cam in the 224dur range will get you to 360 with your other mods and stock heads. A Z06 and heads will get you there also, but cost a little more than a cam only install.

I think that I will go with the Logtubes and the ZO6 heads and cam! I'm pretty done racking my brain over this. I just need to verify that the ZO6 H/C will work and if there are any other things I need! Does anyone know of a mild cam and where to purchase one without the excessive lope?

Read this on (http://www.speedengineeringanddyno.c...ecustomers.htm)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Robert Plaster's P-1SC Supercharged '99 FRC Chickamauga, GA

Robert came to Speed Engineering after being referred to us by a good friend who we have also done work for. He wanted us to install a P-1SC Supercharger kit from A&A Corvette and a set of headers. We recommended a set of Kooks. With only 7,000 miles on the odometer, his bone stock base line dyno was 289.5 RWHP & 302.2 RWTQ. With only the Kooks 1&7/8" headers and Speed Engineering tuning, the car made 340.5 RWHP & 357.1 RWTQ!!! That's over a 50 RWHP and 50 RWTQ gain, not to mention that the rest of the car was bone stock, including the air box, filter, and mufflers -- proof that Kooks headers are the most powerful LS1/6 headers available. With this done, we moved on to the supercharger. The kit was the entry level version with a P-1SC Procharger. When everything was said and done, Mr. Plasters car put down 554 RWHP and 496.9 RWTQ. That's REAL wheel horsepower.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

So I guess I will just have to take my chances! Are kooks anygood though?
