Nitrous "fires" are caused by improper installations. Nitrous is NOT flammable. Nitrous mixed WITH fuel is. Most nitrous backfires are caused by people running wet kits without a window switch, which in a "dry" intake can cause the nitrous and fuel to puddle in the intake at low RPM's and explode the intake. The way to avoid it is with a window switch (RPM activated switch) that turns the nitrous on and off at set RPMs. At 3000+ RPMs there is more than enough air moving through the intake to prevent this from happening. Mine activates at 3000 and turns off at 6300. Or you can run a dry kit (only jetting nitrous into the intake, not fuel.) This is the simplest setup, and you can comfortably run a 100 dry shot with no issues, as long as you spray BEFORE the MAF (so it can detect the added oxygen and richen up the fuel to compensate.)

Wet kits make more power and are more tunable, but I absolutely would NOT run below 3k RPMs. Wet kits are installed post-MAF. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
