Picked up a nail in my left rear. Is it OK to have it patched or do I need to buy a new tire?
Hey Bob!
How's it going??
I had my runflats patched twice (two seperate occasions, two seperate tires) and I never had a problem. You shouldn't have a problem either, even with the Michelin runflats.

patch from the inside if its in the tread if it is the side wall you probably need a new tire.................charlene
Unless something has changed, only Good Year and Michilin runflats (according to the manufactures) can be patched/repaired. All the other manufactures want you to throw them away and buy a NEW tire. However, members have reported to have patched/repaired other brands w/o any problems. Problems being: premature failure of the tire due to reparing same.

I think the big issue that is being overlooked here is how long did you run it in the flat condition? Was it at zero pressure or just low? I think that the GYs are only good for 200 miles at 50 MPH at zero pressure and they must be replaced.
If the tire was just low on pressure then you are ok to do the inside patch (only 2 repairs per tire for the GYs).
I had the patch/plug done on one of my GY's with no problem. Cost was $25 for dismounting, repairing, and balance. Not a bad price considering it took the guy close to an hour total. It worked fine for me in the several months before I bought new tires. Mine had never gone to zero pressure.

It makes sense to me...the reinforced sidewall is what keeps the tire from flattening out with no pressure. I heard that the Firestone runflats are not repairable at all if punctured, not sure why...

...now that would make for some pretty pricey tires...
I have had two runflats GY repaired. You must use the plug and patch from the inside. I have had no problems at all with either tire. They hold air perfectly.
