Default Second class citizens...

Now that the C6 Z06 has relagated us, power and performance-wise, to owning the second 'quickest' Corvette ever made, do you feel as though we need validation? Has our Vette ownership been so eclipsed by the newbie that we are hurting? What I mean is, do we need vindication for owning our gorgeous and sleek and slinky C5 Z06 models or do we need a C6 Z to be high class again? I am starting to like the C6 body style and the Z06 specifically, but the C5 style and slender, flowing lines still spell, to me, much more beauty over the slightly more brawny C6. Anyone else feel this way?

I love mine mor each day (and every mod ) but the new Z is getting better looking in my eyes. Looked at one very close this week and it is awesome. Just as long as they are stock, I have them covered (I hope).

More horsepower is easily attained and driving ability can easily negate the C6 Z06's advantage. Unless you're on a race track you can't use all the power of either car. However, there is one thing the C6 will never have, the outstanding looks of the C5.

My C5 Z06 is a sleek sexy lady you would take to dinner at mom's and be proud.
The C6 Z06 is a fat over priced prostitute.
IMO

I don't need validation...maybe theorpy...but not validation.

I need no validation. Time marches on. Things change, with Corvette's always for the better. Enjoy the fact our C5 Z06's are still a better performance car than 99% of the cars sold in America.

In the FWIT department, I have yet to see a new Z on the street, hell I seldom see C5 Z's, so as far as I'm concerned nothing has changed.

I think the top model of each generation goes through that question - at least beginning with C4. If you go to C4 Gen, there is usually a thread about the C4 not getting respect. Similarly, the ZR-1, Grand Sport, and LT-4 cars still seem to get respect as the best available at the time.

Then in '01, the Z06 eclipsed that. The C5 Z, owned the top spot for a while. We all knew the next gen Z would be even more powerful. The C6 Z owners will face the same thing eventually.

Enjoy what you have for what it is. There is always someone newer or faster somewhere.

What did you validate when you bought your Z? If you thought it made you more of a person than you were before you might want to give this more thought. If you thought other people might bow as you passed, or say to themselves, there goes a real man this needs more thought also. There are ricers out there that can outrun many Zs. Do you admire them and wish you could be more like them?
That said driving a vette is a tremendous ego trip for me. I enjoy having the power to pass when I wish and I do enjoy it when occasionally I notice someone staring at the car. Before I purchased the Z I owned a C4 for ten years and 153K miles. That was and still is an ego trip.
There are many cars out there that can outrun me. Life is too short for me to hide my face every time I see one. Besides I am having too much fun. But I do agree with much of your assessment of the C6 styling. I still drive a pure corvette and not some hybrid crossbreed designed to appeal to the European market.

Did you get your car to make yourself smile or to impress others?

I got mine beacuse it is hands down the best HPDE car available ever.... oh and it's dead sexy and very fast.

Given the money yes I'd take a new Z06 becuase I like the design and it's an even bette performer w/ dry sump etc.

Enjoy your car and go drive it.

breathless performance.... light output sucks though. definitly not worth the money that ive seen it advertised for. I bought the car used and it had them on there already. I am working on replacing the lamps with some audi lamps. The breathless would be nicer if it had was HID

Validation? No... it is what it is. From the C5 end -the performance can be obtained. And from the C6 end - the looks cannot. I would much rather be driving my C5 Z06 than the fugly C6 model.

Both are great cars. The C5 Z06 looks better and the C6 Z06 has more HP stock. Just enjoy what you have!!!

The average citizen driver can't tell the difference between a C4, C5 or a C6 let alone whether it's a Z or not...but...they KNOW that they are all Corvettes. Were C4 owners having this same conversation in 97?
