Better? In what way??

Let them talk all they want. Be gracious. Your C5 is several levels above either of their vehicles in the eyes of the vast majority of people.

Remind them that you are driving a sportscar & then suggest you all go to the track...Sebring. I have seen both Lightnings & Cobras at Road Atlanta; they did not do well. On a road course, you would kick their azz.

What are we talking about? Straight line or autocross. Obviously, on autocross, you would win 10 out of 10 times regardless of how much hp the other two have. If the Cobra is modded, look out! They're sneaky and from what I hear, can make some astonishing dyno numbers.

I would have to agree with the above in a straight line you will loose but on a road course you would kick azz.

But also tell them that Chevy does it with out a super charger what is there excuse.

for auto-x, the lightning and the cobra, it's all about the driver and how much seat time he has, lightnings stock are no slouch, they skidpad at .89 g, their weakpoint is the brakes, more so brakefade.
cobras, are little devils also, with the right driver a decent car since the 99-up have IRS.

remember the key thing with this kind of racing it's more about how well trained the driver is, I've seen semi proautocrossers take out guys driving Z06 vettes in a stock neon.

as for the quartermile track, if you all are stock, the cobra, if he can drive will hit 12.8's all day long, stock.
the lightning if stock, will range from 13.1's to 14.X's. most people I know though dont' keep Lightnings stock for long. me included.

My experience @ autocross: Lightnings will absolutely fail to hook up. Loud and smokey (and whiney too). I can assume they would have the same prob. @ the strip. Cool but slow. Cobra? Close, depending on his mods. Vettes have consistantly beat Cobras in the mags.

the whine is entoxicating. mmmmm.... blower whine. anywho.

not sure about auto-x as I yet to try it in the lightning.

not true at the drag strip about the Lightning, my normal 60's are 1.9's on the stock f1's. that was when I was pushing 475lb/ft of torque at 2800 rpm

another thing that depends - is - what kind of mods do the 2 SVTs have done?
those things are ground pounders with the right mods and in a straight line, will walk you!

You'll lose BADLY to the cobra. You'll pass the lightning if the race is long enough If either of them has $700 to put in their cars, you won't be close to either one if you are bone stock!

With tires and a pully swap/tune, I've seen cobras run high 6's in 1/8

I don't think a stock lightning will beat a stock C5. The Cobra would though.

Picked these times up off a website. Don't know how accurate they are but they seem right. First number is 0-60, second is 1/4 mile. They don't list the 04 Lightning yet.

1997 Chevrolet Corvette 4.7 13.3
1999 Ford F-150 Lightning 5.8 14.3
2001 Ford F-150 Lightning 5.2 13.9
2001 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT 4.8 13.5
2003 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT 4.5 12.9
2004 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT 4.5 12.9

Races come down to the driver's skill. Lets assume your skills are equal.

The cobra will beat u in a straight line race.

You will have him in the Auto X.

As for some one making the comment by srsjuju. The C5 has a larger displacement engine so whats chevy's excuse for having a bigger engine?

You should beat the Lightning. You won't beat the Cobra.

from a roll either will really get you if its at any sort of speed. From a stand still the Lightning wont hook up and you will without any doubt win. As for the cobra, rolling start, you will really get trounced on, from a stand still its a closer race(stock on stock). The cobra has some issues hooking up with stock tires from what ive experianced, and it is a complete drivers race, the cobra having a slight edge. Just my two cents

Justin

Your car is a stock '97 which means it's a 13.2 car at best... if you aren't a great drag racer it's morel ike 13.8.

So you could very well get beat by both. Plus those SVT blower cars never stay stock when a pully swap gets you so much power.
