Husrt Short throw - Noise?? Reverse???
Now, though the novelty has worn off and am noticing things that need some attention.
There is a significant amount of noise coming up through the tunnel/shifter that wasn't there before. I know the rubber boot doesn't fit but how do I 'engineer' something to quiet it down again?
And, getting it into reverse is a real trick! I almost takes two hands to push it towards the drivers door to find the 'gate' to get it in reverse.
Following directions, I adjusted the springs a little (not more than one turn each on the set screws), but can't detect any difference. SHould I just remove the spring on the right side?
Otherwise a nice mod!
Ideas, opinions and "I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once" comments welcome

The bad news is you must take the consol off again and do the adjustments,.....
(realy) if you didnt use the loc-tight the shift stops WILL move
! Or if you didnt get the asjustments just so,.. the "shift" will not seat correctly
you must close your eyes and just FEEEEL the shift! When it seats properly put the screws right on the stop but no further! with a fresh coat of loc-tight on the threads let it sit over night! listen you can do this and your not the only guy to do the whole thing over again !ask me how I know!,..............(dont ask) if I can do this ANYONE can
There are several cures for the excess noise issue. The two most popular are to use a half a tennis ball or a rubber PVC end cap with a hole drilled in it and slid down over the shifter. I've tried both and found the PVC end cap to work the best. I recently bought a short shift boot and left the old shift boot installed underneath as another level of insulation as suggested by another forum member.
AFA the noise, insulation around the tunnel area and the plumbing pipe plug helps a lot. Get the 1-1/2" version of the one pictured below at Lowe's, cut a hole slightly smaller than the shaft in the middle and slip it over the shifter and press it into the isolator as pictured below.

Bingo! Somebody noticed! Out of all the aftermarket short throw shifters I have tried (BBP, B&M, Hurst) I find the Hurst to be one of the best by far, for either my C5's, or, my 60's muscle cars. Make sure you follow the directions. Moreover, add a tennis ball (cut in half), AND, do not remove the o.e. shift boot!! This mod has worked for both my C5's for almost four years now with no issues. Go for it.
