Default Help with dim dash lights...

I've had the car ('98 Coupe) for a couple of months now and there's one thing that I'm finding kind of annoying. The center of the gauge cluster is darker than the edges.

It would appear that one of the previous owners switched to white face gauges, so I'm not sure if it's a problem with the aftermarket gauge faces, or just a burned out bulb somewhere.

Take a look at the following pictures and you can see what I mean. If you look at the outer edges of the speedo and tach the numbers are tick marks are bright and well lit. In the middle section they are in shadow. It's kind of a pain, because if I turn the lights up bright enough to clearly see the center of the gauges then the outer gauges are retina-searing bright. But if I turn it down to a comfortable level on the outer edges, the 0-50 section of the speedo (where a lot of time is spent driving around town) is dark.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, if a fix requires dismantling any part of the car, any pointers to resources on how to get things apart (and back together again, very imporant ) would be appreciated.

The gauges are lit up tube type lights at each side. So both of your lights are functional. I have noticed that some parts of the center are bit dimmer even with the standard black faces. I think your only option is to get used to it. Maybe someone else has a better idea.
