Umm, is there a way to keep EG from seeing this... you're going to give him ideas...

Seriously, it looks cool. Great compliment to all the other work you've done on the car.

I've always admired your car, got a chance to see it in KNoxville at the fall expo. I'll be honest personally I'm not a fan of the vertical doors but it is your car and you have done a nice job of creating a very unique Vette. Congrats.

The only other one I've seen that is of high quality is forum member billy182's car. I've seen too many where they were either DIY gone bad or so poorly installed that the electrical harness to the door was exposed or that they fit poorly. See ya round BG.

Paul
Hey Paul, I have also read some bad things about the quality of a few of the kits that are out there.
This one seems to be of very good construction with extremely heavy duty hinges. I would guess each hinge probably weighs around 12lbs.
I did get a chance to talk to a couple of guys that had this same kit installed and neither one reported any problems, with one of them being a daily driver.
In all honesty though, I never would have considered this mod if I wasn't participating in all the car shows that I do.
Take care my friend and hope to see ya' down this way soon.

Z06-JIM, so you're not having any issues closing your door at all? Such as missing the door strikers when it's not in the "just right" position?

Thanks and actually I'm thinking about having more flames airbrushed on the underside and on the leading edges of each door.
I thought it would look kind of cool since these areas are going to be more exposed now.

They really are an eye popper in person (just like your car!).
Just last night on Unique Whips they were putting vertical doors on a C5 vert - it showed them adjusting the doors etc.
An interesting mod! thanks for the pics!

best regards -

Thanks Andy
Do you know what channel that was on and if they will be airing it again?

Hey Jim nice mod. How are the alignment specs on the quater and door? I have heard horror stories about the panels never fitting like factory. By the way who airbrushed the flames on your car?

Hi Jim -

It was on Speed Channel - and I am SURE they will show it again.....but I don't see a schedule for the re-runs on the web site for the show.

Thanks, sent you a PM!

This kit is manufactured by Vertical Doors, Inc.
The hinges allow the doors to swing open and closed just like the factory doors. They just don't open quite as wide as before.
I would guess 90% as wide as factory doors open, but plenty wide enough to be able to enter and exit the car without any problem.
You really never have to go vertical with them except for "show" and would never know the difference from the factory set-up except when you just want to raise them on up to the vertical position.
The hinges also have a built in safety stop on them that will not allow the doors to raise vertical until it's fully opened.
