I've always admired your car, got a chance to see it in KNoxville at the fall expo. I'll be honest personally I'm not a fan of the vertical doors but it is your car and you have done a nice job of creating a very unique Vette. Congrats.
sorry Jim, but i think you went over board on this one. your car looks great and i just saw it in this months vette magazine but lambo doors are better left on lambos.
I'm not one of those people that likes them but you are right. It's your car and if you like them that is all that matters. Your car is still amazing to me...even with them One of the major issues I've had in the past is the quality of the install/kit that was used. I don't imagine that will be a problem on your car. The only other one I've seen that is of high quality is forum member billy182's car. I've seen too many where they were either DIY gone bad or so poorly installed that the electrical harness to the door was exposed or that they fit poorly. See ya round BG.
Paul
Hey Paul, I have also read some bad things about the quality of a few of the kits that are out there.
This one seems to be of very good construction with extremely heavy duty hinges. I would guess each hinge probably weighs around 12lbs.
I did get a chance to talk to a couple of guys that had this same kit installed and neither one reported any problems, with one of them being a daily driver.
In all honesty though, I never would have considered this mod if I wasn't participating in all the car shows that I do.
Take care my friend and hope to see ya' down this way soon.

Z06-JIM, so you're not having any issues closing your door at all? Such as missing the door strikers when it's not in the "just right" position?
thats awesome, it looks like the flames are burning up, it flows like it was meant to be displayed that way I guess you ran out of things to have airbrushed Amaising ride, what else do they have to finish up on them?
Thanks and actually I'm thinking about having more flames airbrushed on the underside and on the leading edges of each door.
I thought it would look kind of cool since these areas are going to be more exposed now.
Hi Jim -
I like 'em!
They really are an eye popper in person (just like your car!).
Just last night on Unique Whips they were putting vertical doors on a C5 vert - it showed them adjusting the doors etc.
An interesting mod! thanks for the pics!
best regards -
mqqn
Thanks Andy
Do you know what channel that was on and if they will be airing it again?
Hey Jim nice mod. How are the alignment specs on the quater and door? I have heard horror stories about the panels never fitting like factory. By the way who airbrushed the flames on your car?
which kit is that. That is the best i've seen on a vette. I dont like the ones that stick straight up. And having tried to close a vertical door kit on a 300C I can tell you it's a PITA. But if they were to close like factory then they get more consideration from me. Could you p.m. me some details on the kit and the shop that is installing them.
i think it looks real good. i did not know that the doors could open and close like stock as well, and i wish you hadn't mentioned that because now i want them again!!!
and i seen your car in Vette magazine, congrats and that was a nice burnout sequence.
damn .. which kit is that? i like the thought of being able to use them like factory doors. one of the biggest things that turned me away from vertical doors is they always had to go vertical.
and as always .. your ride looks beautiful.
Thanks Kyle
This kit is manufactured by Vertical Doors, Inc.
The hinges allow the doors to swing open and closed just like the factory doors. They just don't open quite as wide as before.
I would guess 90% as wide as factory doors open, but plenty wide enough to be able to enter and exit the car without any problem.
You really never have to go vertical with them except for "show" and would never know the difference from the factory set-up except when you just want to raise them on up to the vertical position.
The hinges also have a built in safety stop on them that will not allow the doors to raise vertical until it's fully opened.
