HOLD OUT for a C5 - i have both currently - i couldn't afford a C5 so i bought a C4 - then a few years bought another, then sold them both and bought yet another. all because i couldn't afford the C5 - but...if i'd had waited - i could have bought one probably a lot sooner than i did.
no regrets though, i love them both - but like the C5 a whole bunch better - C5 looks as well as performance are hard to beat with a C4
but you can't go wrong with either

If a C5 is what you really want then you should hold out.

Like so many others, I loved my past C4 But the first 2 blocks that I drove my C5, I was sold hook, line & sinker The difference really is remarkable!
You'll be glad you spent the little extra.
Good luck in your search.

I had an 89 and sold it several years ago. I just picked up a 97 and I love it. I searched all over the country and found this one for $16,000. If you look you can find some reasonable C5s out there. I think it is a much better car. I just wonder if the C6 is as much of an imporvement over the C5?

I sold my '96 C4 last spring. I was torn between getting an newer NSX or a C5. The NSX is an awesome car, as I'm sure you are well aware. I had lurked the NSXPrime site for almost a year. Both cars have their pro's and con's. But for the money, I feel the C5 is a much better buy. I picked up a 1 owner, '02 Z06 w/2,700 for $32K. A similar year/mileage NSX would have cost me $50K+. That made the decision easy...the rest is history.

As a former C4 driver who took the plunge, I would suggest getting a C5 if you can. Fewer rattles, more power, better ride.

I went from an 6 speed 86 coupe to a 2001 Z06. The Z06 power and handling makes my 86 seem like a Volkswagen Beetle

I loved my C4, but had no problems giving it up for the C5. The C5 will have to be pried away from me!!

Wait for the C5, you won't regret it.

My first vette was a C4 18 months ago, thought I died and went to heaven, ran great and still think its the best looking vette ever made - it ends there. The C5 I got 9 months ago easily surpassed the C5 in soooo many ways. My first vette purchase was a mistake - shoulda been a C5. Looked at a C6, don't want one (would take the performance but not the car). I'll put my money in keeping my C5 looking and running great, if I rack it up - its another C5.

Default C5 vs C4

After a year of looking and test driving C4's & C5's, I just picked up my 1999 Red Vert with 19,000 miles. It cost about 10k more than a nice C4 vert but the difference is incredible. The C4's all creaked & rattled with lots of body flex and hops over bumps. My new car has none of this! I can't believe I even considered a C4. I haven't stopped smiling for a week!

Like all others have said, get the C5. Of course, on the C4 forum, you would probably get another opinion! Own both, the C4 is getting to be more of a "classic" than it used to be, the C5 is still a world class sports car.

'96 Collector Edition Convertible / '02 Magnetic Red Z51 Coupe: Love them both. I find them very different to drive. C4 seems a bit tighter and more compressed inside, ( because it is. ) Both great. If I had to choose just 1? I'd go with the C5.

I have owned an NSX. A C4 would be a serious downgrade.

The C5 will not quite have the handling/feel of an NSX, nor the build quality, but the V8 power will be a nice change.

Went from a '94 6-speed coupe to a '01 6-speed coupe. I drive the C5 more often than I did the C4 plus the C5 is a great cruiser for driving long distances. The C5 just has better performance and better utility!

I just started shopping a few weeks ago. Took my first test drive in an '86. Great! Next, I drove a '93 - much better! Finally, I drove the '01 - the best by far. Just bought my first Vette 5 days ago - the '01. My wife, who was initally against the purchase altogether, ended up being the one who encouraged me the most to get something newer. I don't regret it. Get a C5!

The only thing that is tangibly the same about C4 and C5 is the Corvette name... I have owned both. Wait for a C5.
