Default Help! Running 87 Octane

hABIB, I am in America for 5 days fills me up with regular.-F#*K.
I started pinging badly 15 minutes later, thats when I read the reciept. I run 93 or 94 only because of my tune. Did I do damage to my engine and other than draining the tank what can I do?

Whatever you do drive the car very easy and dont beat on it, I would go and get some octane booster right away, put it in the tank and drive the car pretty easy till it gets close to empty, then fill it back up with premium, you should be fine.

Octane boosters do not help much. If you are lucky it will bump you to 87.4 Drive it real easy and as the regular runs out get more 93 to add as you go. Or if you have unleaded Sunoco race gas available like GT 100 add 5 or six gallons and it will bump the 87 stuff up. Good luck! Even though they say the Z can handle it Don't run regular.

"octane boosters" in a bottle from the parts will do almost nothing. If you dont drian the tank, mix it with the proper amount of xylene or toulene to bring the octane to around what you normally run.

Thanks all for the suggestions! Unfortantly it started pinging at high speed maybe for a good mile. (I had my favorite CD cranked up before I noticed) I will go easy, I put some octane additive in the tank and topped off with 93 almost 5 gallons.

One tank of 87 should have absolutely no long-term effect on the car. Just don't drive fast, and it won't ping. Get it down about half-way, and then fill 'er up with the good stuff.
It's not like it was filled with diesel fuel.

That's the problem in Jersey. You can't pump your own gas!

It's fine just put the car has a knock sensor and it will drop the timing to offset the ping. I agree with everyone else run it down to about 5/8 drop 100 octane in

Just find the nearest gas station that has 100 octane and go top off and dont beat on it till u think all that "crap" gas is out.

that sucks..usually in my area it's redneck tom or billie bob that can't even spell his own name even thou he was born here that fills our cars. and it'll be fine- the ecu will compensate.

That's one thing about Jersey I hate... last time I was driving through I just go out and pumped my own damn gas. I live there for 8 years, but before I was old enough to drive.

If you bought the gas from a "Major Refiner" contact their customer service at HQ lodge a complaint and see if you can get a remedy. Also put them on notice for any potential engine damage. Should get their attention!
