Default Leather conditioning

I noticed in the owners manual that it said to never apply oil the leather seats. I've used Leatherique rejuvenator oil and cleaner on my other leather seats and love the stuff.

Why no leather penetrating oil for these seats?

I'm a little perplexed because I'd like to do more than simply clean them.

I never saw that in the owners manual but I'd like to know that answer also. I've always used something on all my cars leather seats to keep them from cracking and looking like crap. My current car (2003 Z06) was bought used and I wish the previous owner would have done a little more on keeping the seats in better shape.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I was told that oil based products can cause the thread in the stitching to deteriorate.

So let me get this straight. Not only is the leather cheap, but so is the thread used in the stitchings? Doesn't seem fair! Consistent maybe, but not fair!

Believe this or not. A fellow on the Cadillac Forum uses this method: he lets a bar of Ivory soap dissolve in a gallon (I"m not sure of the exact quantity) of water; this takes a day or so. He then applies this mixture to his leather. His seats looked terrific!

Let me get this straight... the C5 has interior switchgear that looks like it was stolen off the Pontiac Grand Prix line and you're suprised that they cheaped out on the leather and stitching?

Sorry... couldn't resist.

I've been using Lexyol on my leather seats.

I began using Meguirs Leather Conditioner and then tried the Armor All equivalent. Both are white liquid type cleaners. I found that the White liquid was getting into the small holes of my sport seats. Now I do the solid panels with the conditioner but just use the spray on type cleaner for the pierced panels. It looks good and gives a high gloss but I'm not sure how much moisture it puts back into the leather. That's important to me in the Vegas sun. I found a combo spray on cleaner/conditioner kit in Costco which works well.

My seats still look good, assuming you don't have a thing about the natural patina.

I have used a product from Griots Garage. The leather rejuvenator and conditioner. It seems to do terrific things for the leather.

I've used Eagle 1 Leather Conditioner on mine for years. Just pour it in the palm of my hand and rub it into the leather - sit for a few minutes, then buff off with a clean cloth. Keeps my seats looking like new.

Another satisfied Lexol customer here. I first heard about it from the leather store (Tandy Leather) when I had my 88 Anniversary Edition with the white seats and wanted to keep them at their best. They have both a cleaner and a conditioner and it works great from my experience.

Has anybody hear used Leatherique rejuvenator on their seats with acceptable results and no probs with the stitching? I really love this stuff on my Connolly hides. Keeps the leather soft and supple. If nobody can confirm that it's safe to use, then I'll just keep using it for my other cars and go with something different for the 'Vette. But I want to get busy doing something, soon.

I use Griots on my leather seats. I have a 3 step process:

1. Clean with Griots Interior Cleaner
2. Condition with Griots Leather Care
3. Protect from UV rays with 303 Aerospace Protectant

I talked to Ken King of Vette Essentials and he uses and recommends Leather Master products:

Default Lexol

I use that stuff, so far, so good. I kept the Originl Leather seats on a 62 Porsche looking good for the 23 years I owned it, after it was already 10 years old, But the Leather on the Porrsche was much thicker feeling and no doubt, better quality, but nonetheless...Longer than lots of you guys are even old!

Use Lexol, don't like Mothers. Maybe you can't use an oil based conditioner because of the built in airbags?

...I gotta believe Ken King knows what he is talking about!

I however have used Zaino for 5 years on StuzVette and the original leather seats are in EXCELLENT CONDITION

..of course those are for sale because I am now sporting Ken Kings
newly installed Black and Silver Leather interior

I however will use Zaino unless Ken King says not to...

Paging Ken King
If the OEM stuff lasted 5 years I have to believe better leather should last a lifetime
