Ok, so I decided based on the extensive info here on the forum I could take on changing out my rotors. Bought new Baer 1-piece rotors and the necessary tools. Someone on here said it was a 90 minute project - NOT in my world.
Here's the problem: I have a 30gal 150psi tank and impact wrench but I can not get the bracket bolts to budge. Is there some trick that might help? I hate to put it back togrther and pay a shop to do what appears simple if I could get the bracket bolts to unscrew. Oh, by the way on my car the bolts are 21mm vice 22mm.
Please some help! My car's sitting in the garage on jacks.
go get some liquid wrench and soak the bolts and let it sit a little while. Then get a breaker bar on a heavy socket wrench and put some torque to it or just try your impact again.
See if that gets it done! I am about to do the same job. I have owned lots of cars where i worked on the brakes for DEs and racing and I doubt these cars are any harder to work on than the others I have had.
Use a 1/2" breaker bar and socket. Make sure the breaker bars is at least 18" long. I suspect your impact wrench isn't up to the job. The bolts are not only torqued to 125 ft. lbs. They are also glued in with Loc-Tite.
I don't know if you have a Harbor Freight store near you but I have this inpact gun and I haven't yet found anything it won't remove. I did my brakes last year a complete rotor, pad, caliper, and ss lines. I also have a craftsman 33 gal, 150 psi compressor and this works great. If you don't have a store close you can order it online, but it takes about a week to 10 days for them to get it to you. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93124
its also on sale right now with some impact sockets thrown in.

Glad you got it done, but I agree with the above statement. There is a world of difference between impact guns. I had a Campbell Hausfeld that was rated for like 100 lbs, it wouldn't crack a walnut. I went to Sears and bought the best one they had, I think it's rated up to 700 lbs., nothing stops this thing. I even easily removed my crank bolt with it.
Now that you have it apart, clean everything well. flush your brakes and re check all your torques.
I never used loc tite on my race cars as I would change brake components sometimes once a weekend. For street, I would consider putting some more loctite back on the bolts as directed to be sure these don't back out durring street use.
I agree with using heat to get loctite loose later if needed.
Glad to hear the liquid wrench and a breakerbar helped you.

I bought IR at sears also 700 lb. 1/2" Thing is awesome on my heavy equipment. Sears sells the 18" bar with a flexible head which is great. As stated car needs a bit of hieght.
100 lb. gun is nothing on a bolt like that. Still good when you loosen it to spin it off in a hurry
