I picked up a 2002 z06 over the weekend, and its exhaust tips are oval like I see on stock coups and verts. I was expecting round tips since that's what I see on net pics of other peoples' z06s. Is it just that the pics I've been looking at were all aftermarket? Is there a way to prove to myself the car has the oem exhaust? Thanks in advance for reply.
A pic would tell all (be worth 1000 words).
Certainly a Z06 exhaust should not be oval. Look on the tips or the mufflers for any aftermarket stamped name.

The factory Titanium mufflers actually say "GM TITANIUM" and a part #. The stock c-5 stainless system should be magnetic, but I don't think that titanium is.

My stock mufflers do say titanium, but it is on the top side of the muffler. I just tried crossing your # through GM, but nothing came up. Did you try a magnet on them yet?

There is no iron in titanium so my guess is that they are not z06 mufflers. Also the ti ones will have a gold tint to them and the stock c5's will have a galvanized look to them. Sorry, it is hard to know for sure unless you unbolt them. The ti muffler you can hold up with your pinky finger they are sooooooo light!
I looked at gmpartsdirect, that part# was not found. Here's a smaller pic:
See those spots of rust around the welds coming out of the mufflers, Ti doesn't rust. Period. Those are stock Coupe or Vert mufflers.
Those are just sooooo wrong on a Z06.
I have a carfax and a GM vehicle inquiry report and a title that all say it's a 2002 z06. All based on the vin on car. (But believe me I double checked after finding out about this exhaust! )
Looks like the previous owner swapped the TI's for the regular coupe version and sold the TI's on the open market. The regular coupe exhaust are sometimes free, so they probably made another 400 bucks on the deal. I would also check out your wheels and make sure they are original speedlines as well. Speedlines can bring some big bucks if they are genuine and reproductions can cost half as much. If they are repro's, then you're running heavier wheels than what came on the car originally.
I'm not sure if there is anything else that is Z06 specific that can be swapped out with ease, except for the exhaust, wheels, and air intake. I believe the Z06 intake is larger than the coupe's, so you may want to check that as well. If they swapped out anything else, they would have resorted to taking apart the engine.
Anyway you can get recourse from where you bought it from?
Car has K&N intake, so that's a plus. Will check rims. Thanks for heads up. I emailed seller, who assured me everything is stock except the intake. I hope he will discuss this, but since he's about 800 miles away stopping by his house isn't much of an option.
