[Z06] dealer offered me...
A quick look on Edmunds shows a '95 (which has to be an RT/10) at $27K dealer retail, and an '04 Z at $36K. Even if you give the Dodge a little bump for rarity and the Z a little bump down for "new model depreciation", still not a good deal.
That's an 11 year old car too - I mean, even with low mileage things start deteriorating - hoses, bushings, interior. Your Z I assume was new or nearly new, *plus* it's still (I would figure) under the factory warranty!
There are plenty of Viper's in the used market, so it's easy to find one if you want one. Keep in mind this is the 400HP model, without TC, without AH, etc., etc. It definitely has the exclusivity factor though, if you need it.
Anytime I start shopping, I just keep playing it out in my head, and I come back to my existing ride. If you want to keep your Z fresh, just keep tweaking your already amazing ride!
When it starts feeling a little stale, upgrade some cosmetic items. Nothing adds a little wow factor to a car than a set of aftermarket wheels! A nice set of CCW or IForged and your ride is totally new and ~custom~. Or some nice interior upgrades from VE? A tricked out interior is easy to do, doesn't effect the warranty, and makes the car more fun.
I'm doing the same thing because every car gets old to me pretty quick. So instead of taking the plunge into some thing new/different (911/TT, new Z06) I'm going to keep tweaking the existing ride with that new car money (which would still be modified, so I'd be in the same boat, but starting with a $40K deficit!)
Good luck
The car isn't very fast... high 12's at absolute best... usually they test as a low 13 second car.
They get hot as crap inside... and as allready brought up your car is worth high 30's and that Viper is worth high 20's and you have your factory warranty.
If you want a Viper look for a '96+ from a private owner enthusiast. I believe in 2001 they finally got ABS.
more miles than the one u are looking at, but its a 1998!

Just an FYI,
In '95 there was only one Viper variant, the RT/10 which *is* a roadster (it wasn't until MY96 that the GTS was introduced and the RT/10 had a small HP bump). The $26.6K look like what I saw on Edmunds, not sure what the other $34K might be for? Maybe just a type in your book or something

Z is worth $37,600 clean book
vs. the Viper which is worth $34,200 clean book (Roadster)
or $26,600 clean book (RT/10).
He's trying to make a quick $3K+ on you and the thing is that an '04 Z with those miles will only go up in the next few months as people try to buy a super low-mileage one. We have buyers right now for your Z but I suspect not too many for the Viper. Good luck whatever you decide and sometimes it comes down to what you want vs. the money aspect but just don't get burned by dealer tactics. We should know!
