Default Seat Stiching

My seat stiching is starting to pull apart on the driver side. I guess I am the cause of it because I use to use the seat to get in and out of the car (now I use the rail).

GMPP told me they dont cover that so it looks like I have to find someone to fix it.

so is there any secret I should know aobut getting this fixed. I mean I can't just drop off a seat to a sewing shop or can I????

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

It sucks. I was amazed that GMPP did not cover it under warranty, but such is life.

Now I just want it fixed. I might have soemthing custom made with better leather if I jus can get the stiching fixed.

i want VE covers, but just cant justify dropping the coin right now. i might just live with it for now and get the VE covers this spring or summer.

I have the same problem at the base of the seat bolster on the bottom cushion.

It sucks as my factory warranty just expired.

Interested if anyone has a fix.

They all cut loose at some time or other. The problem is really cheap leather in combination with ****-poor padding

If you have the oportunity to claim it under the warranty, jump on it, to repair it is generally $100 per panel and you may have 2 panels involved if it is split on the seam

I had my drivers seat cover replaced under warranty. At the junction of the outer bolster and top section, it was starting to come apart. I took it to the dealer recommended interior upholster shop to get an opinion first. The interior shop told me that they could repair the cover but that it would eventually happen again because the holes around the stitches had been stretched. They recommended replacing since it was covered under warranty.

It's been maybe 2.5 years now and the new cover does the same thing. I think it's because of how i get out of the car.

So, while the interior guy said to get it replaced, he also said it could be repaired. Depending on how much you drive yours (mine's a daily driver) a repair could be a good option. Find a good interior shop and get an opinion.

Good luck!

I guess it is the cheap leather. I had a 1987 porsche and the looked like new when I sold it last year.

thanks I will start looking around. I am surprised that it is covered under warrranty. I am going to look into that since I was told that GMPP would not cover it.

If you need the car on a daily basis. You should be able to take the drivers seat out and move the passenger seat over to the drivers side, that way you can still drive the car. You can then either pull the skins off the seat to save a few bucks or just take the seat into a trim shop for repair. It can be resewn but what will happen is when you re-sew the seam you have to move the seam in a min. of 1/4 inch on each piece so now you have taken out a 1/2 inch and the cover will be extremely tight going back on. Which will make it more prone to what damaged it in the first place, the way you get in and out, that's why it's always the outside of the seat that breaks down.

i think i am just gonna get the VE covers or the ones from leaterseats.com and call it a day.

i dont drive my car much, but i still hate the seat looking like crap when i do.

ken king told me at carlisle that chevy uses the same leather on the vette as they would on a cobalt. its not even close to the same grade as on the caddy's.

Default seat repair

Had the same thing happen to the seat in my '02 coupe. The dealer sent it to a trim shop ( I took it and waited). They replaced the complete top cover of the seat. Dealer ordered it from GM. They did a great job, looks perfect.
Trim shop in New London Connecticut. Get the complete top section replaced, you won't regret it.
