Default ACI Front Spoiler Questions!:)

I posted a thread similiar to this one a couple of months ago about the ACI front spoiler. I'm still debating whether or not to put one of these on my car, I love the look but just wondering if it's worth putting it on a daily driven car? Here's some questions that I've been needing some answers to, so all you ACI spoiler guys help me out if you don't care!

* Where the cheapest place to buy the ACI spoiler, and how much does it cost to have it painted and installed? Since my car is Millenium Yellow will I have to have the front clip painted or blended in to match?

* Will the spoiler drag alot? If so where are the most prone areas?

* Is the ACI spoiler lower than the factory spoiler? I'm at stock ride hieght so that should help me a little.

* How does the spoiler mount up to the car? Do you have to jack the car up to install?

* Can you still get your oil changed at the oil change places with the ACI spoiler on?

**** Post your Pics ****

Sorry for all the questions but I know alot of people have these spoiler here so I thought I may get more feedback here than talking to the people at Midamerica, Ecklers, etc. THANKS for all the help!

Check around in Mid-America (and the like) catalogs for the lowest price.

Me, I didn't have the the paint blended with the nose ('cause I wasn't SURE that I'd be using the spoiler). A good paint shop will get the color very close if not exact, and the way the light hits the spoiler is different than anywhere else on the nose -- so, I'd say just have it painted by itself.

Overall installation and paint costs will vary. I don't remember what mine cost me.

* Will the spoiler drag alot? If so where are the most prone areas?
A lot? I don't know. What's your driveway like? Do you take your car everywhere? Have any huge speed bumps to navigate? It really depends on your driving style and where you drive. But, no, this should NOT hit many places except maybe on angled driveways and so forth where you can't take the car up/down them on a tight angle.

* Is the ACI spoiler lower than the factory spoiler? I'm at stock ride hieght so that should help me a little.
No! It's higher than the rubber pieces. And if you're not lowered, you should really have no problems whatsoever. Remember, though, that it sits more FORWARD than the rubber pieces, so watch for steep inclines!

* How does the spoiler mount up to the car? Do you have to jack the car up to install?
You will initially, 'cause you'll have to drill the underside of the nose. You'll need to room, and it'll make life easier to attach the spoiler. Once everything is drilled and the hardware is in place, the spoiler can be installed/removed with the car on the ground.

* Can you still get your oil changed at the oil change places with the ACI spoiler on?
Um... I'm not sure. LOL I'm lowered, and so this'll be interesting. (Can you tell I haven't gone for a change since installing the spoiler?) Anything is possible by driving up on wood planks first.

**** Post your Pics ****
Ok!

1: don't know the cheapest place to buy one...
2: the spoiler will not drag at all, as it sits higher then the stock air scoops. when approaching inclines however, just go at an angle and u'll be perfectly fine. my car is slammed to the ground and i only scraped 2x due to my own stupidity...
3: u need to jack up the car to install the spoiler. they give u metal plates, which u put inside the bumper. access this from the corners access panels. line up the spoiler and the plates and drill holes in the bumper. its pretty easy really. without instructions, i did it in 2 hrs. that was the initial trial fit, after i got it painted, i re-installed it in 15 minutes. paint costs about 150 or so depending on ur paint guy. i had mine for $60
5: changin oil will be tough only in the sense that jacking the car from the front is quite impossible now. just jack it up from the side. and personally, the only other person to do my oil change is my performance shop. they know how to properly jack up the car, not like those dumb small shops...

as a side note, do remember that your coolant temps will go up by about 10 degrees or so due to the lack of air flow to the radiator. i mean, there is flow, but not as much as the stock one. not a big deal, but someting to be aware of.

also, remember to re-install the center stock air damn.

here are some pics of mine...

is it fair to say that the aci will hang as low as the factory air dam spoiler?

Thanks for both replies! Very helpful Will I still be able to get my oil change at the local oil change places with the ACI spoiler? Thanks!

Make sure it is what you want if you order from ACI. I ordered the LS1 hood from Mid-America who got the hood form ACI and it didn't fit right. Even the body shop agreed ! It cost me $ 125.00 to ship it to me and another $125.00 to ship back. They would not work with me on the shipping. I am now out of $250.00.

You have gotten alot of good replies already so I will not go into depth. I have had an ACI front spoiler/splitter on my C5 for almost 2 years now and I will tell you this much, I don't believe it is a good part for a Daily Driven Corvette. You will tear it up, guaranteed on a daily driver.

Many of the replies above are good but when I read Daily Driver on your post, I immediately said to myself, NO WAY.

The factory 3 piece black plastic airdams are 1" lower BUT the ACI is about 22 inches farther ahead of them. They get to driveway inclines WAAAAAAAAAAAY before those black plastic spoliers that you always hear scraping do and the ACI gets there waaaay before the tires start to raise the car up that incline.......

Ok thanks alot! I say it's my daily car, but it's more like my weekend car. It's my only car but I only drive it 2-3 times a week

Does anybody have a Millenium Yellow ACI front spoiler for sale or one you might get rid of the price was right? If so email me at badyellowcorvette@yahoo.com or PM me! Thanks

Mine is an ACP ( Advance Composite Products or Corvette Race Bodies ) not an ACI

It is an overlay of the front lower bumper. it is attached with pop-rivits as we decided that doube sided trim adhesive tape would not do the job and hold it in place above 120 mph. SO far rock solid at 150 mph

Yes it will drag on almost any drive way and speed bumps forget going over them.

No you can not go to oil change places, or vehical inspection( if you have them in your area) Need to learn to change your own oil anyway.

YES it will get torn up and scraches are an understatment.

Good Luck

BUT, he's also not lowered. So, he MIGHT be ok. (But as an "only" car? Hmm... I don't know.)

At very least, if you add it, then decide it isn't going to work for you, you can take it off and never know it was there (despite leaving the hardware in place), as the holes in the nose require you to get on your hands and knees in order to see them.

Someone sell Derek an MY spoiler so he stops asking me for mine!!!

Good luck!

I'm going to disagree slightly with the above statement.

I have one on my DD and it is just fine. The issue will be in what environment you drive and what shape or condition your roads are in. I live in FL and the roads here are very flat so the ACI lip is only an issue for steep incline driveways and entrances to businesses, parking lots etc. So mine does just fine in my area. You just have to keep reminding yourself that ANGLES are your best friend. Always go up driveways and entrances at an angle and you should be just fine with the ACI.

Good point. If you live in a nice flat area, you should be fine. Here in PA it's not ACI friendly. I have places I can't even go with that Spoiler on the car. Ticks me off. The funniest place being the meeting place where our Corvette Club meets once a month, I can't get my Corvette in the lot.....

Yeah the roads are pretty much flat here except a big dip here and there, but I don't go no where near them in the vette anyways So for the most part does everybody say get the spoiler or keep it stock? Thanks for all the replies so far

StuzVette has gone over/through some pretty sharp inclines...
...but like Glenn said...the front is low and waaaay out in front of the tires...about 22-23 inches...
Daily driver or not...
...I drive where I know what to expect...
...in uncharted areas Im just more careful...

But I can go anywhere and have without any incidents...
...the biggest bumps or inclines require the sharpest diagonal approach and the appropriate turn of the wheels... but its possible...
Lowered on stock bolts...

...it looks lower under certain circumstances...

...this was one of them...

get it and enjoy the ride...
