Default O-Ring for Tire Pressure Sensor???

Have any of you found a replacement part for this? I just spoke with a local Chevy parts department and they tell me that you can only get them when you buy the entire sensor

I have a slow leak on one wheel and am about to have the tires replaced. I would like to fix this at that time, but don't want to have to replace the TPS.

A search did not really answer this question.

Thanks

They are standard everyday o-rings. When I swapped my wheels, I went into my o-ring box and pulled out a few different sizes. They are a little thicker, but they work 100% fine.

If you want, PM me your address and I'l mail you a handfull.

Not long ago someone said you can get them at Home Depot. I believe it's a #9 O-ring. Worth a try.

I also have a slow leak in one tire. Where does the o-ring go? Is it inside the tire? Is so, my leak may require a different fix.

Thanks,

Russ...

Russ,

The o-ring is inside and is the "gasket" that seals the base of the valve stem to the rim on cars with the TPS system. They have been prone to leaking. I guess they dry out or something.

You can try tightening (slightly) the nut at the base of the valve stem, at the rim. Or it could be the valve stem itself. There is tool to use to tighten the valve inside the stem.

Good Luck

Roscoe118, they lied to you. I JUST bought 4 o-rings from my CHEVY dealer specifically for the TPS sensors. They sell them.

Go Steelers.

I ordered a whole new set from GMPARTSDIRECT.COM, the part# is 25715243.

Guys, before you go tearing the tire off the rim to replace this gasket, check into this...

I had a slow-leaking tire a few months ago, on my right rear tire. I had to refill it just about ever 4 or 5 days. The last time I went to fill it, I rubbed my finger across the valve stem and heard a faint-yet-noticeable hiss.

I found that when I purchased my C5 Logo valve caps, there is a small rubber gasket inside that, when the cap is on tight, is supposed to fit in around the valve. This thing was pushing the valve slightly to the side, just enough to cause the leak.

I removed it completely and pulled gently on the valve to get it to seal. It worked. Haven't had a leak in 3+ months.

I had to use tweezers to pull the gasket out of the end of the stem.

Hope this helps.

roscoe118,
Just so we're clear, are you talking about the "old" style sensors or the "new" style sensors (97-99 and 00'-2004 respectively(I think))? My understanding is the old style used a simple o-ring; the new style has a fancy "stepped" design that is pretty unique - I doubt you'd find those at your local hardware store. To the two people who posted about getting them from the dealer and gmpartsdirect, can you clarify for what model year/what style these were replacing? Thanks.

For my 99 vert early style sensors, GM carried the o-rings. Spent about 7 bucks for all 4.

Check some of Discount Tires, they may have.
They are the same for BBS wheels.

This is interesting. I know that there are differences in the old/new sensors but did not know the o-rings were different

For those of you that say you replaced them with the #9 ring from Home Depot, do you have the old or new style sensors?

mschamberger, do you have an 00' or newer car? Thank you for the part number. If these are for an '00 or newer car (I have an '02) I'll try calling the parts department back.

If anybody has used the #9 rings on an '00 or newer car, please chime in, I'd much rather do that than pay the "Corvette Tax" on a GM part
