There appears to be a difference in the way GM has handled this.

The o-ring for '97-'00 is p/n 10268438 and was a stocked item for replacement

The o-ring for '01-04 is listed without a part number and is packaged with the sensors and the nuts.

Here is a photo of the early sensor

Here is a photo of the newer sensor.

There is a clear difference in where the o-ring would go.

Paul, not sure what you mean in your last sentence, as the ridged, black "ring" around the base of the valve stem (of the new style sensor) IS the "o-ring" which seals the TPS against the inside of the wheel rim.

I had a slow-leaking tire a few months ago, on my right rear tire. I had to refill it just about ever 4 or 5 days. The last time I went to fill it, I rubbed my finger across the valve stem and heard a faint-yet-noticeable hiss.

I found that when I purchased my C5 Logo valve caps, there is a small rubber gasket inside that, when the cap is on tight, is supposed to fit in around the valve. This thing was pushing the valve slightly to the side, just enough to cause the leak.

I removed it completely and pulled gently on the valve to get it to seal. It worked. Haven't had a leak in 3+ months.

I had to use tweezers to pull the gasket out of the end of the stem.

Hope this helps.

Yep!!!!!!! I checked mine and the small o-ring inside of the aftermarket caps was puching down on the inside of the valve stem and letting air leak out.

Thanks!!!

the seal on the newer sensor is the same as regular steel screw on type valve stems that you can get at the local parts store. You can also replace it onto the older style sensor.
