I just bought last month, a 2000 FRC, black, with 35k miles, and in showroom conditon (honestly, this car is pristine), with the following options: polished aluminum wheels, Bose speaker/amp sys, 12 cd changer, active handling, HUD, a/c electron. dual zone, 6 way power driver seat, fog lamps, lamp group, floor mats, lic plate frame)Car is 100% stock, no mods at all

for $24,200 car's orig sticker was $38,555 for standard veh. price, $43, 319.00 total with options ( car was mfg'd in 3-00, and originally purchased in 12-00) I'm second owner now.

And if I overpaid, I don't care, 1 They're not easy to come by, and 2 Considering the awesome condition of this car, I felt it was worth the price!and 3 I really wanted it! ( I didnt want to compromise, see RonC!'s post! I couldn't agree more!It was 30 mins from me, ...and I also inspected it and test drove it, and fell in love! )

with Ron C's post. Corvette owners are not always the thriftiest of types anyway

While everyone loves a good deal, once you make that connection with a car,the price doesn't seem quite as important to me

Others may think differently, but when I shop for something, once I see what I want.....The decision is made It's just a matter of the best deal I can make at that point

What makes me chuckle are people that will say this guy paid too much for his dream car, when they turn around and drop $30K worth of mods into their car and be lucky to get back 20 cents on the dollar.

If it's the car the purchaser wanted, then so be it. I know what I'd ask for mine if I ever decide to sell it, which would be well above market value. I'm not foolish enough to think I'd sell it overnight, but I do know that there's someone out there who's willing to pay my asking price.

I paid exactly what my car was worth in 2003. It wasnt a bad deal and wasnt a great deal. It was fair market value.
3 years later the car dropped $10,000.00, but you have to expect that.
I still love the car because it is exactly color and type I wanted

That is like owning a stock for $20 a share, today it is worth $15 a share and you are holding on to it, do you say I lost $5 per share (no). You only lose money if you decide to sell it.

Just a thought!

If the C5's were truly holding great value, then a 27K mile car's true market value would be more than $20K.
Some of you seem to think he overpaid. There were SIX bidders that bid OVER 20K. Several of them appear to be dealers. I think that shows the value better than any price giude, or what someone paid for something else. To me market value is what the car sold for today, not what a book or website ESTIMATES. I wonder what it would have sold for on the open market private sale or at a dealer? I guess that because I own one, I want to see the FRC be in demand.

It sometimes sounds like the more "knowledge" through Corvette Forum, Ebay etc. we acquire about prices, specs, etc. on these cars.... the less we care. I just bought my used O1, 2 years ago because I thought it looked cool and 30,000 grand seemed cheap at the time. (I didn't research the prices etc. at all and didn't know anything about Corvettes) I think I have learned one thing over time after buying this. I overpaid, and I always do for toys. You should see the age-inappropriate junk I buy for my 10 month old.

Sounds like your hope and desire are interfering with reality. A car will sell for whatever some one is willing to pay for it. But if the individual paid much higher than what it is worth, it doesnt do anything to significantly change the market value. Wanna see what that car is worth? Look at the TMV or Wholesale value. Those are the true numbers whether one wants to accept it or not.

Worth is very subjective. I paid $26K for my 2000 18 months ago. Did I overpay? I think not. The car was worth that to me because it was the exact car I wanted, just as I would have ordered it new. Keep in mind also that the published guides are based on non-emotional value. The dealers pay based on what they think they can sell the car for. It is a different attitude. I bought Corvettes for a dealer in South Fl for several years in the late 80's. I have always paid more for my personal cars than I would pay for a car for resale. Didn't matter if it was a color I didn't care for, somebody will like it. It is the emotional factor.

Let's assume that for what ever reason that you have made up your mind that this is the car you want. You search the country for one, maybe you find 3 or 4 for sale at any given time due to how few have been made. You find that this car is in far superior condition to the others. It has the wheels that you want, it has low miles, has not been raced and beat on. What do you do? Do you pass because some internet site says that it should only cost $21K? Do you settle for a red car with 45K miles that is only acceptable because it is $3K less? Not me. I will make the best deal I can on the car I WANT. And to be honest, I have been dissapointed in the long run every time I have "settled" for something that is not exactly what I wanted. Never pass on "the" car if it is within your means, you never know when you will find it again.
I overpaid for both of mine. They had to be exactly what we wanted with no compromises. Once found after long searches the 'deal' was secondary.

The thing no one has pointed out is that people tend to overpay for stuff on eBay all the time. Somehow they get into a "gotta have it" mentality.

Now I'm not saying this was the case here, but I've seen it enough where someone says "I'll just place one more bid to get it..."

Just saw a 2001 Zo6 for 29K at a local Chevy dealer here in Northern Va. Don't know the exact mileage, but I can tell from looking at the car it's low. Seemed like a real good price to me!
