Default side exit exhaust? possible?

what do you guys think of a side exit exhaust? i have a frc and been considering this...location would be in the area of the z06 brake duct location...and be on both sides...

---scenario 1
im thinking the easiest way out would be to put it under the car and be behind the doors right before the tires underneath the rocker panels and underneath the brake duct entry points...
---pros:
easy and fast production for this part to be made
no body molding or cutting
removable
price
---cons:
looks(kinda cheasy underneath the body and not part of the body)
limited to style of tips(most likly a box style tip)
ground clearence's and the pipe being open to debris

---scenario 2
this would be the best way but more permenant...get 99-00 rocker panels and cut into the rocker panels where the z06 duct would be to find a location best suited for the exit, a crap load more designing and production time...
---pros:
could look amazing if done right and very clean
the style of tips is limitlus to say the least
design and engineering(some say con i say pro)
i can design a rear carbon fiber diffuser
---cons
no more brake ducts
permenant
function(because of design of the pipes may impead flow)
price
painting costs
test fitting (a lot of this)

---scenario 3
just leave it alone and dont worry about it and think about other things

-for me i want to do scenario 2 and have tips like the 2005 eleanor clone(dual side exit tips oval)...pic

https://cervinis.easycgi.com/product...1&id=1160#9022

-the seventh pic down is a close up of these tips up close...first 3 pics are of side shots
---OR---
instead of those tips or similiar ones to that i was thinking a slashed cut 3 inch pipe(racecar look) sticking out maybe less then an inch..

let me know your guys thougths on this...this is just in my head right now and not even on paper except here on this forum...thanks

Not a chance... The only way this could be done, is by removing the body, cutting a hole through the hydro form frame, then welding reinforcements plates around the hole. With a frame this low to the ground and no place to exit the exhaust, it is virtually impossible..If it was a relatively easy fix. Someone would have done it... Nothing is impossible, but the cost would far outway the end result. There is no way to run the pipes over or under the frame, you would need atleast a four inch opening. The frame is five inches high, putting the pipes over the frame would put the pipes 4inches into the cabin. Going under the frame would put the pipes 2 inches from the road surface.Of course you could always run the pipes over the frame and through the fuel bladders...

Or you could run the pipes through the cabin under the seats

As E-T said, there is no where to run them. Flat bottom car plus low slung = good luck.

i found a picture but its in my japanese option magazine...ill try to scan it tonight and posts pics of the general design...this design would use the oval principal...they made this piece for ground clearence issues for the D1 guys.

Even for an oval NASCAR style pipe there is not much clearance. You do have a C5? Have you looked under it?

You would have to take the exhaust out in the front wheel well, and down the side like side pipes.

just stay the heck away from the plastic fuel tanks if you decide to go out in that direction! you could bring them straight up thru the hood like a diesel truck.

Default side exhaust

Not something I would want, however, I thing it could be done by using the flat exhaust tubing that is used on Nascar cars. It can be obtained in widths of just over 1" and about 6-7 inches wide. They use a round to flat transition piece that would get you under the frame without a great deal of clearance loss.

thats what i was thinking of but as i was sitting under the vette today for a good 10minutes i have found a way to do this, and NOT go under the car and NOT go in the car and NOT cut anything underneath factory except what i projected in the scenarios i have...as soon as i get pics ill will share this....there is one problem...do i want to go without the stock brake ducts????

i think if you can really pull off the ehhaust through tho body you can deal withough the break ducts, unless you autocross your car your bot really gonna need them. JMHO. i followed the last side exhaust thread, what would you do with the empty hole where the tips are now?

are you talking about the rear of the vehicle? or the side rocker panels?
if your talking about the rear i would design, test and build a carbon diffuser...if your talking about the side rockers i would buy or locate normal set of black rocker panels and cut away....i dont autocross but i may track it once a year for a laugh or 2...

soo far ive got the basic design in my head...and its goin to bea 2 piece set up. the piece with the actual tip design attached to it that goes into the actual rocker panel will have 2 exhaust hanger mounts with bolt hole brackets on the ends to attach to the body of the vehicle(this is so the tips dont bang around and are stationary) the piece that goes from this piece to the factory location x-pipe/h-pipe will be totally removeable for obvious reasons(clutch, rear end, maintenence, ect).
the first exhaust im goin to design is goin to be made of cheap materials to get basic measurements and go on a long long test drive(probally a month of testing to ensure fitment, and any liable issues with this hypothetical set up)

i have mechanical destop, pro e, ect for programs and will throw together some basic measurements of the rear section of the vette underneath, side, ect...i want to make sure the clearences are there in case theres a market for this hypothetical exhaust in the future.

as for mufflers...ha what are those...i will hopefully have headers off road version with heads/cam by the time this is a finished product...but as i said before if theres a market im sure that can come later...so now that i got my basic idea and i have my tip style picked...its time to hit the drawing board....ill keep this thread updated as best i can....its goin to start slow cause my garage is full and i really dont have room until nicer weather hits to really start on this(i live in buffalo, ny)

any input and criticism is welcomed...thanks guys
