Hi EG -
Sorry to hear your engine trouble - but kudos to ECS!
It's nice to hear the GREAT stories.
And I bow to you - I remember many a cold night laying in a puddle of frozen trans fluid wrenching on a car with the old "jet engine" heater blowing under the car......
Brrr.........shiver just thinking about it....
best regards -

I have an unusual valvetrain however, so that might have caused it - Harland Sharp 1.7 roller rockers (stock ratio), chromemoly hardened pushrods (7.4 stock length), Crane dual springs (good to .650 lift), steel seats and titanium retainers but the stock 49,000 mile lifters.
I suspect a pumped up lifter kept the #3 exhaust valve hanging open and the piston wanged it. That's just theory, however. When I pull the head I'll have a better idea of root cause.
