Are there any holes left if the emblem is removed from the trunk. Also any tips for removing are appreciated. I want to move it up about an inch to cover a scratch up. Where can I buy another one if I screw it up.
If memory serves the rear one does not have the guide holes but the front one does. I am assuming you mean an 01-04 Z. To make sure try the fishing line method on one side of it. If you can get it to go through your in. You can order a new one from many vendors. I think Mid America has them for sure.
The Emblem Was Installed At Factory With Doublesided
3m-tape. Gm Dealerships Sell These Also. Be Sure To Clean Area With Alcohol When Installing New Emblem.
I did the SMOOTHIE Mod on my 02 Z06! It took about 10 minutes. Use a hair dryer to warm up the trunk and emblem. make sure that you cut the double stickey off the emblem,,, not the trunk. Once the emblem is off, you can yse some WD-40 to soften up the tape and use your finger to ROLL OFF the stickey stuff!
I used some buffing compound on a cloth to polish off the area.
Works like a champ. I will include a picture later on tonight when I get home. Oh,,yea,,,it DOES NOT leave any holes!!
Man,, I'm sorry to leave you hanging!!! My son graduated boot camp and decided to come home and wanted to drive his JEEP to Fort Bliss, Texas! The sucker just about needed an overhaul!!
Thanks for the reminder!
Here are the pics of the deck lid before polishing:
This is all that is left after removal. Just some adheasive and a light smuge mark that was easily polished out with some light rubbing compound.
The adhesive can be removed with some WD-40
It is difficult to take a picture of a highly polished car close up. You get a lot of reflected background.
After polishing:
I will take another photo of it tomorrow. I promise!!! The Jeep and my som are on their way to Texas. Nothing like a easy 2600 mile drive in a jacked up Jeep with 33" tires!!
how do you close the trunk now? i use the emblem to keep my greasy fingers from touching the paint.
I put an approximately 4" wide patch of transparent static-cling vinyl across the trunk lid trailing edge. That way I can close the lid from pretty much anywhere on that edge. I also put the same thing on the horizontal surface of rear bumper. It keeps the scratch to the vinyl patches and now I don't have to worry if I have to lift something from inside the trunk or if I needed a space to put something on the car.
