I'm sure that this is old news and that people have mentioned this before but I just saw the seats on a C4 today and they look like they provide a TON more lateral support than our C5s! They're stock seats and totally look like they're meant to support so much more... What's up with that? It would be cool if somebody could post a picture...
You can almost see it from the picture above (thanks for the pic) but the seats actually go up on the edges and there's more to hold your posterior in place...

Yeah, definately. I have another one, let me see if I can dig it up...
The seats in my old 92 vert (standard seats) provided a lot of support but they really didn't allow you to move around in the seat.
While this is good for performance driving, sitting for extended periods of time like on a long trip withoug being able to move around can get to be pretty uncomfortable. About all I could do in the car was 3 hours or so at a time before I wanted to stop and get out.
Although I only have driven about 1K miles in the 02 I bought last fall (and nearly all of that was the trip home), I'm finding that the C5 sport seats are much more comfortable than the C4 seats. Those of us with more "mature" bodies appreciate the additional comfort level.
Hi My 96 was more comfortable but the side bolsters would be more prone to abrasion plus when you get into a C4, you plop into the seat and then drag yourself out.
You also have to realise that Gm made the seats to fit those customers who are over weight.
Lets face it, when you can afford to buy a brand new vette, the majority of the people who buy them are in their 40s-60s. A good number of them are overweight. GM had to make seats that would fit fat azzes into em.

Hopefully GM comes up with some options... I love what they did with the power wings that grip the sides of your torso--I just wish that the wings went forward another inch or two so they would go further around your torso instead of trying to pinch your torso into place... and I wish they did the same thing for your upper legs too (make some sort of power adjustability so you could have the seat grip you tighter or looser...
My Scion XB seats have more latteral support in them! The C4 interior seems/is a more confined space that helps you brace yourself in place better. Your able to steady yourself with you legs and arms at times against the adjacent interior pieces. Your hips wind up being stopped from moving side to side not only from the seat but also the door sill and console because of their close proximity. The C5, with it's larger interior room seems to need a much better seat, not because its that bad, but because there is nothing else to help brace you in your seat except for the steering wheel. They may have taken the easy in and out thing in the C5 a little too far even with the sport seats. Although its nice and comfortable it is harder to drive correctly. You should not have to hold yourself in place to drive the car, It should hold you. They are sellling cars, thats what really matters.
