Hey Goose,
I get my oil at Wal-Mart, and get it in the five quart bottle, then a couple one quart models, I get the best price going this route!!

In my C4 I used Mobil 1 5w-30 and changed it every 5K. I tried Redline and went 7500 with an oil filter swap half way through. I never had a problem with the car and it burned no oil between changes. With 120K on the odometer it was still as strong as an ox.
In my, new to me, 02 Z, I'm running Royal Purple end to end (Engine, trans, diff, pwr str, all synthetic). I have about 3K miles on the oil now with 2 track events, 2 autox events, and daily driving. The DIC Oil Life still says 58% left. In mid-March I'll change it before my track event and send a sample off to Blackstone. I want to see what they have to say.
Subdriver's approach makes sense. Next time you change it. Send a sample to Blackstone and see what shape it is really in regardless of the brand you like. Then you'll know for fact how your engine is doing and how the oil is standing up. It'll only cost you $20 or so. Then adjust your interval based on facts and maybe you'll save money and not waste good oil. On extended drain intervals I would at least change the oil filter and top off.

Strictly Royal Purple here, in all 3 vehicles. '01 Ford Focus wagon w/ zetec, '02 Z06 and '03 Hemi QC. I go with the DIC monitor in the Vette and 6000 miles for the other two. Absolutely flawless! No problems at all.

I have used Royal Purple before, and I liked it. I used to get it at a local NAPA but I have always had to order and then pick it up next day or so, maybe in the afternoon if called in the order in the morning. That was on my Z28, though.

I have an XLR and I change the oil when the compuer tells me to, around 13,000 . the oil and filters are free from GM. my Z06 04 I just changed at first 500 miles , first time changed, because it had been setting for almost two years and I detected water in the oil. I've had two XLR,s and did run them like I had stole them. never a problem.... So GM must know something.

This is a test of gear oils not engine oils, but still it makes me wary of Royal Purple and Lucas.
